I do not understand what you are saying could you expound are explain a little more. Because what I am interpreting is that you are stating that my church and the believers that worship there are ignorant or prideful and fleshy?

And also saying that my pastor is not teaching the scriptures of Christ? Before I react or address the situation I want to see if I have the correct interpretation of your statements first.

They would only be in such a position "if" they choose not to uphold the divine principles found in the head covering. Remember, its all about headship! And if its headship you are willingly questioning through resisting the custom, then yes, you would be ignorant or prideful and fleshy. I think this would stand for all God's teachings would it not?

Concerning your pastor, if he (or sadly she) was making judgements on 1 Cor 11 which were in opposition to Paul, Christ and God, then once again its a matter of conscience. Who stands in judgement of God's Word?

The highest example is to yield to the Word not to preside over it. From your response to Poppin I felt "elements" of that spirit being presented - likened to saying "do what is right in your own eyes"

We know where that leads.

I would prefer to see believers searching for the principles within 1 Cor 11 which Pauls is basing his thoughts on rather than suggesting they can be ignored and seen as irrelevant.

Let each believer be convinced of these truths in their own mind and in doing so strengthen those of who also walk toward his Kingdom.

I think "forcing" women to cover their heads (or forcing/enforcing other things, like "giving"); rather than actually teaching/preaching straight from the Word on the matter, allowing the Holy Spirit to convict or lead the people to understand and then do according to their convictions (which if properly taught would eventually align with the Word) is the best way.

When something has been forgotten (like head coverings), it can be a very difficult thing to simply talk about and say - "now you must DO this". Like all others things we learn as we go, some sooner, some later...I myself gave no thought whatsoever to headcoverings since the practice is forgotten.

But the subject interested me personally when i came across it. I had asked my pastor during my confirmation why women no longer covered their heads - he looked a little sad and said "it used to be a sign that one was a decent woman". So i decided to look into it. It took several weeks of serious study both of the history in Scripture itself; along with simply looking at the practice in the East!

I took the passage apart and examined all the arguments for and against and had the "aha" moment that indeed, Paul is saying women must cover their heads.

This was alarming initially...what to make of the fact that it is rarely done in the West (even falling out of practice in the RC church)? Had I come to the understanding a few years earlier, my (im)maturity level (I can't really know) might have led me to make a production out of it somehow at my own church, or with others. But I realized it is something each one (man and wife) must be shown for themselves to be the Will of God, otherwise they are being "forced" to "do" something they may not understand. This never works. So I don't talk about it.

And admittedly because no one else covered their heads at my church I was intimidated to suddenly start doing it (group think/peer pressure - and the question - had i really understood the passage?). So for awhile I did not cover my head. But too late - the understanding was there now and so was the conviction (even though I am a widow and not remarried). Fortunately I sit at the back of the congregation. So the day came (I always wear a light scarf around my neck anyway), I discretely pulled the scarf up over my hair as we prayed and made confession of our faith. I doubt anyone even noticed. And so it is to this day. If I am ever asked about it (I doubt I will be), I'll simply say I believe it was always purposed, and I choose to do it.
I in no way will make any issue of it for anyone else....

When I was in the United States, visiting my brother, the women in his Church did not wear any head covering. But I wore my veil anyway, and no one said anything. I did not sit in the back. I sat toward the front. Some of the women on my island still wear the veil, and I am not going to change just because I am in the US. My aunt in Ohio also continued to wear her veil despite that she lives in the US. She lives in Ohio for many years, so the people in her Church got used to her wearing the veil. When I visited her, she and I were the only ones who wore the veil. What people think doesn't matter to me. If I was a nun, they most likely wouldn't think anything of it.

If you believe that headcoverings are in literal headcoverings so be it unto you, if you believe it describes the headship of Christ and then husband over wife okay and even if you do not wear one that is still your prerogative. My thing is let things be done in decency, order and humility not causing one's brother or sister in the faith to stumble! Over issues as trivial as headcoverings "according to each man's faith so be it unto him!" the main things is that your saved, sanctified and filled with the Spirit of Jesus! With that you will live in modesty and holiness and adhere to the convictions of the Word of God!

i understand this can be a controversial subject. I hope to avoid turmoil and personality conflicts.
I did not wear a headcovering (a simple scarf - hence my avatar) UNTIL i actually read the arguments against it, and a few for it. I decided to sit down and go through the passages myself. and i did study some early church history, and even modern church history (it appears a reporter asked a representative of the Vatican (after a big meeting of some sort) if women still has to cover their heads. The RC said something to the effect that: we did not address that at this meeting.
But the reporter took the story and ran it worldwide saying headcoverings no longer required for women. i am not RC. i just post this as some background to how recently it is that western women stopped covering their heads in church.

I studied the passages myself, and though they are hard to understand at first, i found that indeed; women are to cover their heads. i do this now in church. though i would never suggest to another that they have to do so as well.

i don't have time at the moment to post the chapters on it, nor the current argument for and against. but i hope we could have a civil discussion on the matter. If anyone has the time before i return to post the relevant passages, it could be a very helpful discussion. i will write about what i see in those passages that indicates that all the women covered their heads when coming together; assembling FOR PRAYER AND WORSHIP - CHURCH.
