Consecration of the Human Race to the Sacred Heart

Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us humbly prostrate before Thy altar. We are Thine, and Thine we wish to be; but, to be more surely united with Thee, behold each one of us freely consecrates himself today to Thy Most Sacred Heart. Many indeed have never known Thee; many too, despising Thy precepts, have rejected Thee. Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to Thy Sacred Heart.

Be Thou King, O Lord, not only of the faithful who have never forsaken Thee, but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned Thee; grant that they may quickly return to their Father's house lest they die of wretchedness and hunger.

Be Thou King of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions, or whom discord keeps aloof; call them back to the harbor of truth and unity of faith, so that soon there may be but one flock and one Shepherd.

Be Thou King of all those who are still involved in the darkness of idolatry or of Islamism; refuse not to draw them all into the light and kingdom of God. Turn Thine eyes of mercy toward the children of that race, once Thy chosen people: of old they called down upon themselves the Blood of the Savior; may it now descend upon them a laver of redemption and of life.

Grant, O Lord, to Thy Church assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give peace and order to all nations, and make the earth resound from pole to pole with one cry: Praise to the Divine Heart that wrought our salvation; to It be glory and Honor forever. Amen.

V. Jesus, meek and humble of heart.
R. Make our hearts like unto Thine.

Let us pray. Almighty and eternal God, consider the Heart of Thy well-beloved Son and the praises and satisfaction He offers Thee in the name of sinners; appeased by worthy homage, pardon those who implore Thy mercy in the name of the same Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who lives and reigns with Thee forever and ever. Amen.

A litany is an ancient form of prayer!

For me it wouldn't be prayer without ritual prostration. Praise Ίησοῦϛ for showing the way in ΕΥΑΓΓΕΛΙΟΝ ΚΑΤΑ ΜΑΤΘΑΙΟΝ 26.39.

Welcome to the forum.

You cited a particular example in Matthew. There’s obviously nothing wrong with prostrating oneself in prayer, and you’ve said this is your personal practice. I respect it and think it’s a beautiful practice.

But is that the only physical posture Jesus assumed in prayer? Aren’t there other physical postures described in scripture? Are you opposed to them? Should the physical posture assumed in prayer be a matter of great concern for Christians? (I’m aware that it is in some other religions. Islam, for example.)

Hi Matthias and thanks for the welcome.

There are probably many other valid postures, but I haven't read much more than the book of Matthew, then Genesis and Exodus. Although I've noticed the particular way I prostrate is standardized in Islam and orthodox Judaism. I figure it should be ok for someone influenced by a 'cultural snapshot', which could be seen as the 'middle child', as it were, to appropriate the custom.

That's not to say I think it's the only way. Just the way that happens to work for me. When I first considered getting a rug, it did give me reason for pause. It's strongly associated with a different religion, but my chosen motif is of the first Christian cathedral built. I've also got a menorah, which is not really associated with Christianity as much anymore, but was during the Roman empire. (source forgotten, sry)
