Not if they are uncertain what to believe
Agreed.
A Christian today is someone who believes & trusts in the death/burial/resurrection of Christ for the forgiveness of their sins .
Gal 1:11-12, 1 Cor 15:1-4, Eph 1:13, Eph 4:30

I think I'm going to start by reading the gospel of John.

I’d recommend the synoptics (Matthew, Mark and Luke) first but if you’ve decided on John, let’s set you off on the right foot.

“1 In the beginning was that Word, and that Word was with God, and that Word was God.

2 This same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by it, and without it was made nothing that was made.

4 In it was life, and that life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in the wilderness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not.”

(John 1:1-5, Geneva Bible)

You should meditate on that. Compare it with other translations; don’t rush through it or past it.

I minored in missions. We were told to tell new believers to start with the Gospel of John because it has a lot about Jesus' deity and a lot of Jesus' words about Himself.

I’m sure they did. It’s common advice. It’s what I was taught in church and in college. I hear it all the time. I bet @Riven has heard it somewhere along the way too.

The scientists at the Institute for Creation Research are Bible believing Christians.

Then those would be the few scientists that accept the Lord

All the others believe "the lord" are demons or aliens, you know "higher powers"

@Matthias Riven is also fellowshipping with me and others at a nice online fellowship of Christians. All are welcome there. Some are brand new Christians.

That’s a good step forward for him.

P.S.

I was thinking about your post as I went about my routine this morning and it reminded me of the article I’ve linked. It’s been on my TBR list for some time* and I finally got around to reading it today.

* Going back to a conversation with @GodsGrace last year.

Well now I'm curious. Ask.

Which translation did you use? Did you compare it with the Geneva Bible translation I quoted and linked in post #105?

John 1:1-5 is about God and creation. With the Geneva Bible translation (and every English translation made directly from Greek manuscripts and published prior to 1611) in mind, how many persons did you read about?

I am so glad I found the fellowship group... it's at Counter Media UK. Everyone is so kind and welcoming.

We have a bit of chat, tranquil Christian songs, prayer, sometimes Bible readings. Sometimes Richard Inman who leads it tells a bit about what's happening in the UK regarding Islam.

There's been a huge surge of Bibles being sold in the UK and many are coming to Christ or back to Christ.

I'm using NIV. No, I didn't compare.

NIV is nothing at all like the Geneva Bible (and all other English translations published prior to 1611 directly from the Greek - and many translations since) in the way it translates the prologue in John’s Gospel. The Protestants who read the Geneva Bible (and the other English translations I’ve alluded to) didn’t read what you read.

It’s important to see the difference.

Thanks. I was beginning to think that I might have misunderstood your post. I’m glad to see that wasn’t the case.

Returning to my post #105, how many persons would you say you read about in John 1:1-5?

@Riven I'm not familiar with the NIV. I like the NKJV... it's like the old KJV but without the archaic English words. Also the Bible college I attended recommended NASB...New American Standard Bible.

@Matthias I hope you aren't planning on taking Riven on a course that denies the Trinity. Although the word trinity isn't in the Bible, the concept of the Trinity certainly is. Jesus talked of the Father and Jesus said He would send us the Holy Spirit when we believe in Him.

Matthias why don't we let Riven read the Bible and be glad for that?
