the verse of the day on my bible app: James 4:17 Therefore to him that knows to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.

Romans 14:13-19 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way. [14] I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteems any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean. [15] But if your brother be grieved with your meat, now walk you not (in Christ) charitably. Destroy not him with you meat, for whom Christ died. [16] Let not then your good be evil spoken of: [17] For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. [18] For he that in these things serves Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men. [19] Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

1 Corinthians 8:9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours (the power of God given not for destruction but for edification) become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.

1 Corinthians 8:11-12 And through your knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? [12] But when you sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

Great question: through your knowledge …shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?

“Therefore to him that knows to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.”
Three things stand out with knowing to do what is right and doing it not, you sin against Christ.
1) the warning to not put a stumbling block in front of a brother who is weak. How then does Christ become a stumbling block to the Jew? Yet Paul said he would not put a stumbling block before one who is weak to make the brother fall, in doing so he sinned against Christ. Christ who died for those who are weak. Warning see not that your knowledge nor Liberty becomes a stumbling block…

2) let us follow after things that edify one another.

3) the one in those passage that knows to do good is Paul. Not the weak brother, but Paul. So (Imo) “therefore” “to him that knows to do good and does it not, to him it is a sin.”… Is directed at those who know to do what is right…walking charitable…and he does it not, to him it is sin.
