Some may have depending on how early you are talking but what does that have to do with anything? thinking Christ would soon return has nothing to do with flying away rapture doctrinewhich was never taught by any early church And if you are refering to Thess. teaching that false doctrine That's a wrong conclusion. they were concerned with where the dead were Why was that? the church of thess was brand new 3 weeks old Paul had to leave and run for his life this new church of Jew and Gentile had some new converts that brought a rumor that Christ had already returned for the second time So the Thessalonians were expecting the dead to rise first and the millenium to begin. When Timothy learned this false rumor he told Paul who quickly penned 2 Thess.to inform them Christ had not returned and would not until after Antichrist the Son of pertion and his tribulation.the early church did not expect his return any moment Heres some historal facts for you Biblical Significance Paul (with Silas and Timothy) came to Thessalonica from Philippi on his second missionary journey, stopping in Amphipolis and Apollonia before arriving here (Acts 17). He preached in the city’s synagogue, the chief synagogue of the region, for at least three weeks. His ministry was strong, and he established a Jewish-Gentile church, although it was more heavily Gentile (1 Thes. 1:9). When Paul faced great persecution at the hands of the mob, he fled to Berea, but Thessalonians eventually forced him to leave there also (Acts 17:13-14).Mission in ThessalonicaActs 17:1-9...they came to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue. Acts 17:1bCity: "Present-day Salonika. Capital of Macedonia and largestmost prosperous city in Mace. 40 miles from Apollonia. Strategically located on the Thermaic Gulf...straddled the Via Egnatia" (Dollar:42) "...probably founded by Cassander in 315 B.C. and named for his wife, the daughter of Philip II...population of perhaps 200,000." (Longenecker:468) Summary: Paul went into the synagogue, as was his custom, and began reasoning with the Jews from the scriptures. He tried to explain to them how important it was that Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead. Some Jews, many God-fearing Greeks, and not a few prominent women came to believe. Many of the Jews did not believe and formed a mob, which rushed to Jason's house, where Paul and Silas were staying. When they could not be found there, Jason and some of the brothers were brought before the city officials. They accused them of housing troublemakers and of defying Caesar's decrees, since they were claiming that Jesus was their king and not Caesar. Jason and the others were made to post bond and were set free. .........So there you have it your rapture doctrine "catching away" mis understanding by a three week old church of gentiles/jews whoheard it from rumors not much differnt than today men start a rumor based on a crazy girls dream and men make a religious doctrine out of it and Gods word goes out the window, forget they were corrected ,why believe the correction when you have a good rumor.
