Both are true. They simply come at the subject from different angles.how can Jn 20:31 and Lk 18:17 be made compatible ? - twinc
Both are true. They simply come at the subject for different angles.
It is the child of God whom hears of the kingdom and believes, who shall inherit eternal life.
Twinc,
Contrary to your statement above Jesus said, "With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible."
Matthew 18:1-6;10
At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
2. And Jesus called a little child unto Him, and set him in the midst of them.
3. And said, Verily I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
4. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me
6. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
10. Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
What little ones? The true believers, of course.

We (adults) must have a child-like trust to believe Bible.

you simply simply believed in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, toolittle Christian children that did once simply simply believe
i couldn't quite make sense of this, but i think i get you. Fwiw none of our translations use "faith" there, they all conflate "believing" with "faith," when there is obviously a difference; and "pistis," such as is in the original @ Jn20:31, is better translated "faith."of course proves the point but you do not now or have to but you do as at Jn 20:31
Adam and Eve simply believed what the serpent had to say, instead of what the Lord God had to say. its all about belief and trust "faith" its how man lost the Life he had as to be the son of God. hence in God's good Judgement that Life is restored to the sons of man in the same requirement. if trusting and believe that which is not the Word of God brings you loss of the Life, then its is just and right that trusting and believing in God's Word restores you to Life.
it is simple as that, its God's Judgement to restore the Life He originally gave to the man Adam, to the sons of man. hence repent, turn from trusting what is not the Word of God that is a lie, to the Word of God that is the Truth of God that not only gives Life but restores Life to the lost.
all else after being born of the Holy Spirit is a matter of growth. from a trusting child, of the Father, to one who feeds the same. hence the assignment to Peter. "feed my sheep"
its about time Christians start getting wise. those who trust and believe the lies in the world are always prodding Christian to justify "faith" and the power God has given it to give or take away life. but yet they are the ones who hold fast to their lies onto death.
therefore Christian, don't buy into that? when its the faith of the lost that keeps them in the dark. they keep their faith in what they desire and value, simple as that, and especially on a site like this Christians are always trying to justify their faith when they haven't recognized that the Lord Jesus Christ is your justification in all things, therefore you need not justify the Faith.
don't let yourselves be burdened with what is God's job to do.
