Hello RepentingChristian, even though we, who are in Christ, have been given a new nature with new desires by God .. e.g. Ezekiel 36:26-27; John 3:3; Ephesians 2:1-3, 4-5, 10; 2 Corinthians 5:17, our old nature, though subdued and pushed into the background now, continues to rear its ugly head whenever we allow it to (whenever we fail to walk in/by the power of the Holy Spirit, who indwells us).

This can certainly result in sinful behavior on our part (like the signifigant outbursts of anger that you mentioned .. see Galatians 5:19-23, sins that a true follower of Christ then, chooses to confess and repent of! So, since you've both recongnized the problem and continue to make the choice to be penitent, I believe that it is incorrect for someone to say that "you are not a follower of Christ" or even that you are "not a faithful follower of Christ", because your choosing to be penitent is one of the telltale signs that you really are a true believer (see the Pink quote at the bottom of this post), unlike the unsaved, whose lives are continually characterized by sin and impenitence instead (just like ours used to be before we became Christians).

Good :Hnds

I turned away from the national news stations (for the most part) and started watching my local news stations instead, because I found that my local stations reported on the national news that I needed to hear, but they do so (typically) without all of the unnecessary sensationalism that the 24/7 news stations always seem to add to it (plus, you never have to listen to the same story over and over again).

You also get your local news when you watch your local news stations (obviously) and, quite frankly, lighter/friendlier news too, which makes the local news broadcasts an overall better experience, at least it has been for me.

First and foremost, by knowing/understanding what God commands, specifically, and then by choosing to walk in obedience to His commands with the help/guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Here is some of what the Bible tells us to do (see the passage below), and it helps us know how to do so, too

Psalm 119
9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Thy word.
11 Thy word I have treasured/hidden in my heart, that I may not sin against Thee.

The thing about memorizing verses and passages from the Bible is that they not only end up being the ones that are nearest and dearest to your heart, they will also give the Holy Spirit a VERY signifigant tool to use in guiding you in your daily walk with/before Him (which certainly includes His help with NOT sinning, because whenever you are tempted to do so the HS will bring several of your perfectly memorized verses to the forefront of your mind to remind you why you shouldn't) :gd

There are some other thoughts and/or practical methods that the Bible mentions (as things to remember or do when we face daily temptations), and here are some of them in no particular order: 2 Corinthians 10:5; James 4:7; Also: 1 Corinthians 10:13; Ephesians 4:26-27, Ephesians 4:29, 1 Thess 5:17; James 1:19-20.

God bless you!!

“IF” an individuals STANDING IS “IN” Christ Jesus….
(ie… they ARE expressly WITH and “IN- CHIIST”…)
AND…
The Power of God…
(ie. “Christ”… “IS IN them”)…

THAT Power…(is greater than ALL Power).
THAT Power…(is Perceptual)

A precept, IS A “BEHAVIOR” between TWO beings.

THAT Power…IS a man “IN Standing”, Means / Way / Tool, TO ACT, and React toward Others…
In the Same Fashion, as DID our Teacher and Example…”Christ the Lord Jesus.”

* Speak Gods Word…to the ear shot of family, friends and strangers.
* Continue to Speak Gods Word to willing, eager listeners.
* Disagree by Calling attention to another’s Corrupt Teaching, Behavior.
* Without Fear or Defense, Reject a gaslighters False Accusations Against you.
* When ASKED, Provide “Gods Approved Word”, to “substantiate your STANDING / Position”.
* Allow the Hard hearted, and the content to be and remain Ignorant…to walk away.

Remember…Every individual… IS Suspect-able TO Being “Possessed” by a Spiritual Power, Greater than manKIND…
If it is Not the Spirit of God, IN YOU, YOU ARE a Target for the spirit of the devil.

Glory to God,
Taken

'No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life;
that he may please Him Who hath chosen him to be a soldier.'

(2Ti 2:4)

Hello @RepentingChristian,

Ephesians chapter 5 is very good in determining what our behaviour should be in regard to not only what is 'without' but also what is 'within' the Christian community. Those that are 'without' God will judge.

Listening to the news I find it difficult to know how to pray in regard to world events, We are told to pray for those in authority over us (1 Tim. 2:4), whether it be on a governmental level or for presumably any authoritative body who has the well being of people as part of their responsibility: in order that we may live in peace and have the freedom to worship and live our lives in a manner which glorifies God within a godless society.

My greatest difficulty is in regard to a subject which is classed among those things which should not even be named among you. The news headlines are enlarged upon and details given concerning crimes committed which bring before the eyes of the mind behaviours which should never have to be considered, engaging the imagination, and playing upon the mind. The questions, 'How?' and 'Why?' become engaged, and horror and shame result, as the depths to which mankind can sink dawn upon the consciousness.

We have the choice to turn off the television, or radio, or close the newspaper, but there are those who can't, who have to deal with both the perpetrator and the victim, and therefore have to confront images and verbal descriptions that the rest of us are mercifully protected from. It is these who need our prayers. For what the long term damage to heart and mind must be to them I can't begin to imagine.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

'Rejoice in the Lord alway:
and again I say, Rejoice.

Let your moderation be known unto all men.
The Lord is at hand.
Be careful for nothing;
but in every thing
by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving
let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding,
shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Finally, brethren,
whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue,
and if there be any praise,
think on these things.
Those things,
which ye have both learned,
and received, and heard, and seen in me, do:
and the God of peace shall be with you.'

(Php 4:4-9)

Praise God!

by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

Hello @RepentingChristian,

The word, 'keep' (G5432) in this verse has the meaning of 'garrison', the peace of God 'keeps' as with a garrison of soldiers , our hearts and minds, as we put into practice the practical instruction which precedes this verse in Philippians 4.

Praise God!

Thank you

As a "repenting" believer in Christ, I am often driven to significant anger at what I see happening in our country and around the world. I've always been a student of history and a rabid follower of current events, which is simply history in the making. I used to discuss such topics on political message boards, but my anger got the better of me and I proceeded to behave in an unchristian manner. I've been reminded that I'm not a follower of Christ, or at least not a faithful follower of Christ, if I don't learn to control my big mouth. And as I recall Jesus's words about a dog returning to its vomit, I decided that my days of discussing politics and current events online with strangers are OVER. As Jesus said, if something is causing you to sin, remove it - and that's what I'm doing.

So how do YOU control your own anger?
A continually surrendered life.

So how do YOU control your own anger?
You describe your own following of current events as "rabid". A very revealing statement.

I too was once "rabidly" engaged in the over consumption of "news" and analysis concerning the events of this fallen world. But several years ago, being called into a deeper prayer life, came to experience the heart of Christ for my neighbor.

While there may still be times when a particular event brings forth an emotion of righteous anger within me, those times are now rare. The closer I get to Christ, the more I find unhealthy emotions such as anger, bitterness and resentment, to name but a few, are being replaced with compassion, sorrow, and even hope, that God in His infinite mercy, and by His amazing grace, may cause the hearts of the wicked to be turned towards His Son in true repentance and faith.

If the watching of current events affects you in a negative way, you may want to consider the very real possibility, that it is intended by the powers that be, for that specific purpose.

As a "repenting" believer in Christ, I am often driven to significant anger at what I see happening in our country and around the world.

I don’t think you are being honest with yourself. If you looked around the world and saw everything was great, you’d start thinking man doesn’t need God.

Meditate on the source of your anger. You may discover it stems from pride.

So how do YOU control your own anger?
I give it to God. One of the major transformations in my life when I came to Christ was the release of anger.

In daily devotional reading and applying the principles I read, I began to feel a spirit insulation layer around me, a spirit grounding. What once would cause me to lose my cool, I realized I was free from carnal reaction, recognizing the worldly agitations and temptations no longer touched my soul.

Pray for the fruit of the Spirit. It helped me and I’m sure it will help anyone who prays in spirit, truth and humility, the humility that comes from confessing I don’t just need a savior; I need a Lord of my life.

Hope this helps.

Psalm 37:8
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
I can never grasp Middle English. A modern translation renders it.
Psalm 37:8 The Voice

So turn from anger. Don’t rage,

and don’t worry—these ways frame the doorway to evil.

It’s about emotional intelligence and stoicism. The 7 Deadly Sins are not about jettisoning all emotion. It’s about not letting the emotion control you.
  1. Anger is OK, not wrath.
  2. Hunger is OK, not gluttony
  3. Sexual attraction is OK, not lust
  4. Earning a profit is OK, not greed.
  5. Etc.

If you can’t control yourself, certainly abstain.

days of discussing politics and current events online with strangers are OVER.

One thing that’s helped me is to realize much of the angst over politics is actually a shadow of the spiritual war. In other words, the political fervor is driven primarily from spiritual problems, the lack of relationship with God.

IMHO, politics is primarily an economic consideration. For instance, should a community build a bridge? There should be rational PROS and CONS that reasonable people have the responsibility to delve into the details to determine.

Math shouldn’t be too emotionally invective. Here is where such things as ‘public good’ or ‘the greater good’ apply. Yes, there is a cost to building the bridge. The question is, is the ROI worth the cost?

As voting has expanded to include the financially irresponsible, they vote based on other considerations, such as emotions and mercy over justice, I.e., economic profit.

Consider the hot button issue of the day, ILLEGAL immigration. Those in favor of it have compassion for the invader, believing they just want to make a better life for themselves in seeking asylum. There is nothing wrong with that mercy based analysis, per se. (Put aside human traffickers, drug dealers, gangs and Jihadi’s for the sake of discussion).

What about the economic benefit to America in letting these people in? With the Somali fraud in Minnesota, it was revealed last week that 80% of Somali immigrants are on welfare and after being here for 10 years, the number essentially stays the same at 78%. Therefore, from an economic consideration, we ought to stop immigration from Somalia, the worst country on Earth.

If someone else is paying for it, mercy and emotion may drive decision-making. (This is why I am in favor of tying voting to payment of direct taxes.) Otherwise, the political proposition reduces to, do you want something for nothing? Most people, of course, say yes. And, of course, that is a corrupt proposition because there is no such thing as a free lunch.

Hope this helps.

One's focus determines everything.....how and what one sees.

There is a difference between righteous anger
and the anger that cometh of man .
Lets see
HOW did JESUS keep his anger in check
when he look round about them WITH ANGER due to the hardness of their hearts .
Or perhaps when he entered into the temple with whips and began whipping at
and overthrowing tables .
Or how about paul and barnabas when t hey said SEEING you count yourselves unworthy of everlasting life
WE TURN to the gentiles .
Its easy to not be mean . I mean were it not for the grace of GOD i had been just as they are now , STILL LOST
and wicked as can be .
BUT CORRECTION whether sharp or grave or etc , OH ITS NEEDED in these churches .
Lets see how did paul treat this elayamus , A JEW , oh dear i s hould n ot have said the J word to this generation ,
WHO was trying to lead the deputy AWAY from the faith .
OH yeah , HE SPOKE BY THE SPIRIT and called that wicked thing The c hild OF SATAN and bli nded him .
Oh i dont think this generation knows much at all .
As far as the wrong kind of anger , YOU can pray to GOD about that .
But as far as correction , OH YEAH IT IS A DIRE NECESSITY .

How soothing and calm do ye suppose his whipping at folks and overturning tables must have seemed .
Lest ye wanna visualize Jesus is a clown suit leaping and jumping with joy and prancing around
with a rainbow carefully overturning the tables , ever so g ently
as he said Oh GOD is love lets all just hug and get along .

So you still imagine Jesus as normal person.
Flipping the table and a gentlemanly tone are not contradictory.
