I'll let two emails tell the story one I recieved( from the leader of our youth group) and one I sent ( too the youth group).email 1Hello all, Wednesday January 30 begins the Season for NonViolence, a 64-day global grassroots campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the healing and transforming power of nonviolence. It celebrates the birthdays of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi. While visiting the website www.seasonfornonviolence.net, I came across “64 Ways for 64 Days”, daily commitments to live by. Tomorrow will begin my campaign to send one message to all of you each and every day! For more information visit their website. Peace! Theresa ps: I would like to thank Ryan Fitzmaurice, whose commitment to nonviolence was the inspiration for this idea. In his own humble way he asked me if we could perhaps challenge the teens of our parish to commit to nonviolence in entertainment.......in our music, games, movies, and comedy. I thought it was a great idea and looked into tying it to the Season for Nonviolence. Sure enough, one of the 64 days will ask you to abstain from any violent entertainment.........are you strong enough??Email 2 ( the one I sent out) think Mrs. Barrons beat me to this. But oh well here we go. ( for those who don't like to read; to see my challenge scroll down to bottom, its in bold.) I'm goind to tell you a story, in a muslim country a man converted from muslim to christianity. immediantly after he started spreading the life and teachings of Jesus, and two weeks later he was killed. this is not the story of one man but many. and this is not the story of one country but several. The USA is not one of those countries. On the contrary the USA is a great country, where every religon is accepted. Christians are free to be christians without physical persecution. But spiritually its a different story. Our culture has been called a culture of death, and for many good reasons. It supports violence, sex, drugs, drunkeness, profanity, hatred ect. And even worse off to be accepted, to even try to fit in we must immerse ourselves in this culture. The attack on christianity is much more clever in this country, for it is not obvious or draws attention as much as the physical persecution in other countries. But in a way it is just as deadly. from the words of our lord Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. ( mathew 10:28) Can our culture be harming our soul, pervrting our thoughts, and affecting our actions. and if your answer like mine is yes, then why do we willingly let it affect us. Because we are addicted to it. so here is my challenge. Can we break this addiction for just one week. Mrs. Barrons will be emailing 64 actions to go against the violence in our society. on one it says to turn off all movies, songs, video game ect. promoting violence for one day. I'm changing it in two ways 1. I am challenging myself (and also you) to go for one week. This is not a requirement, there is no pressure. You can shorten it to 5 days, 3 days or no days. It is entirely up to you. 2. Our culture suports many things which are negative. I'm challenging myself ( and you) to not only turn off violence. But any other program which goes against our morals. Our culture doesn't mind when our religon is christianity. but we are not called to have christianity to be our religon. We are called for it to be our reality.and our culture is completley against that. I ask you to struggle with me to go against our culture and come one step closer to making christianity our reality. are you with me?? your friend Ryan Fitzso yeah, I have never done anything like this and basically need prayers to help me respond to any questions, or concerns, or responsibilities this might cast upon me. thank youYour brother in christRyan Fitz

Jody I will be praying to you.UFC isn't much of a problem, is it violent yes. But does it sponsor sin????? that is the question.Culture is full of shows which support hatred towards enemies, pre marital sex, profanity and ect. These are what we are fasting from. I pulled out the rest of the media to allow me to focus directly on god and not on anything else. your brother in christRyan Fitz
