if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
In James the word says he who speaks evil of his brother and judges his brother...the same speaks evil of the law and judges the law ...therefore if you are judge the law and speak evil of your brother ...you are not ‘a doer’ of the law but ‘a judge’ (I have several questions concerning this first being are we to be a judge or a doer?
James 4:10-12 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. [11] Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. [12] There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
Verse 12 stands out as the difference between men and fearing them who are able to destroy the body only or
Matthew 10:28-29 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. [29] Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
Hebrews 5:6-7 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. [7] Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
“offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death” ...There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
Back to the question of: he who speaks evil of his brother is not a doer of the law but a judge.
Romans 2:11-13 For there is no respect of persons with God. [12] For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; [13] (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
Are we to be ‘hearers’ or ‘doers’?
James 1:22-25 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. [23] For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: [24] For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. [25] But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
2 Timothy 2:14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
