I currently do not have a devotional on hand. I have two packed away since I moved a few months ago. One I've read twice, and the second once. This thread has jarred my memory of them. Thanks ! LOL. I think I will be getting them out.
What I do remember of them, was how incredibly helpful they were to me. Either one of three things occurred. One : The meditation for the day felt dry and, well, boring. But this was so rare. Probably about 10 days out of the entire year !
Two : The meditation for the day was very helpful in my putting on the whole armor. It may not have applied to me that day, but it probably would down the road, It fed my spirit. :)
And Three (and this is my favorite occurrence B) ) : Whenever I was going through a particularly difficult and sometimes demonic attack, the entry for the day would fit my situation so incredibly accurate it would blow my mind. For instance, there would be a phrase someone the enemy sent to harass me had used to attack me, that would be mentioned on that page. Or something or some word that was extremely obscure, common in no sense of the word, would be said on that page, that was a focal of my day's trial. In other words, God left no doubt that He was speaking to me.

I think I will get out my devotionals now that it has been brought to the forefront of my mind that I still have them.

Thank you for this topic. I love devotionals. They are a great tool. :)

Yes, devotion time especially in the morning is a must. Start your day with God.

Get fueled and warm that engine up........

Remember..........be careful what you soak in....because that's what's going to come out when you're sqeezed :)

So..don't run your tank to empty :)

Hello,

In the past few months I have been reading through the book of Romans over and over again. At first focusing on the theme of freedom, freedom in the sense of freedom to live as Christ wants us to live, freedom in the sense that salvation frees us from the bondage of sin... I got away from Romans for a week or so and came back to it not paying attention to any theme in particular, just enjoying whatever was said in the book. This week I got out my MacArthur Study Bible, and decided to read the Bible text and all of the accompanying notes. Sometimes I write down some verses on a card that I carry with me all day helping me memorise and meditate passages God uses in my life, to enourage me and to challenge me.

Reading Romans this week with my MacArthur Study Bible helped me understand to new depths what the love of God means to those of us who have been saved, who are part of God's elect, who have been made heirs of God, co-heirs of Christ. It is as if the Spirit Himself allowed me to grasp afresh that I am loved of God, as I read and meditated upon Romans 8:37, NIV 2011: "in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us".

Whenever it is possible I try to read a whole book of the Bible in one sitting, recently 1 John for example. At times I pray through a Psalm. I want to read through the book of Isaiah as I did for Romans because some passages there are so uplifting and rich. But so far I have failed to go through with this project. Also, because so much of what is said in the New Testament makes a lot more sense when we are familiar with Old Testament books such as Isaiah (and Psalms also).

At work I pray God using the verses I have been impressed with through my readings, sometimes I can take a few minutes during lunch break to read a chapter or so.

May God bless you all...

Okay, wait a second. Are we talking about daily devotional books or setting apart a devotional moment in the day ?

Cause I think I misunderstood the OP if the latter is the case.

Sounds like me.

But I guess that is a form of setting aside time...... :)
