Hello,
In the past few months I have been reading through the book of Romans over and over again. At first focusing on the theme of freedom, freedom in the sense of freedom to live as Christ wants us to live, freedom in the sense that salvation frees us from the bondage of sin... I got away from Romans for a week or so and came back to it not paying attention to any theme in particular, just enjoying whatever was said in the book. This week I got out my MacArthur Study Bible, and decided to read the Bible text and all of the accompanying notes. Sometimes I write down some verses on a card that I carry with me all day helping me memorise and meditate passages God uses in my life, to enourage me and to challenge me.
Reading Romans this week with my MacArthur Study Bible helped me understand to new depths what the love of God means to those of us who have been saved, who are part of God's elect, who have been made heirs of God, co-heirs of Christ. It is as if the Spirit Himself allowed me to grasp afresh that I am loved of God, as I read and meditated upon Romans 8:37, NIV 2011: "in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us".
Whenever it is possible I try to read a whole book of the Bible in one sitting, recently 1 John for example. At times I pray through a Psalm. I want to read through the book of Isaiah as I did for Romans because some passages there are so uplifting and rich. But so far I have failed to go through with this project. Also, because so much of what is said in the New Testament makes a lot more sense when we are familiar with Old Testament books such as Isaiah (and Psalms also).
At work I pray God using the verses I have been impressed with through my readings, sometimes I can take a few minutes during lunch break to read a chapter or so.
May God bless you all...
