Is Jesus “The Angel of the Lord?”

I’ve heard this from many people, including pastors in sermons make this claim. What do you believe and what makes you believe it since it is not explicitly stated in Scrioture?

At the same time, I‘ve observed Christians mock JW for naming the precarnate angel, Micheal.

I would say yes. Some of the things said by the Angel of the Lord could not be said by an "ordinary" angel. For example:

NKJV Gen 16:10 Then the Angel of the LORD said to her, "I will multiply your descendants exceedingly, so that they shall not be counted for multitude."

Is it within the powers of an ordinary angel to multiply somebody's descendants?

NKJV Gen 22:11 But the Angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" So he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:12 And He said, "Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me."

The action of Abraham in not withholding his son was to God, not an ordinary angel.

NKJV Exo 3:2 And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.
Exo 3:3 Then Moses said, "I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn."
Exo 3:4 So when the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am."

Unless one claim that both an angel and God Himself were in the burning bush, the Angel of the Lord must refer to somebody possessing deity/

The actual meaning... of the word 'angel' in God's Word simply means a 'messenger' (OT:4397, ma'lak; NT:32 aggelos). It is not actually a heavenly specie. But it does signify one who is operating from the heavenly dimension.

The way the Angel of The LORD is identified as God in the Messenger role, which points to His Son before Jesus was born in the flesh, is the CONTEXT of what the Angel stated:

Judg 2:1
2 And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, "I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break My covenant with you."

Who made the children of Israel to go up out of Egypt? God did.

Who brought the children of Israel into the lands of Canaan that He swore unto their fathers? God did.

Who told the children of Israel that He would never break His covenant with them? God did.

That "angel of The LORD" there is speaking as God in the first person. That's how we know that doesn't mean just any ordinary angel.

Also, God's Word as written declares Christ as God, and that all things were created through The Christ.

The Christ was never created. His title of Immanuel in the Book of Isaiah means 'God with us' (i.e., God with us in the flesh). Jesus Christ is called the Only Begotten Son in connection with His birth as God come in the flesh through woman's womb to die on the cross.

Two of these are specifically named, Michael and Gabriel and the Angel mentioned in Zechariah 3 and is called YHWH is specifically named as Michael in Jude. I do not believe that Jesus existed before he was conceived and born. He is a human, the Son of God by birth, character and resurrection.

The word Elohim is used to describe the One God, Yahweh, God the Father, but in some contexts it also includes the Angels, and other contexts it is speaking of the Angels or Judges who represent God and speak on behalf of God, and this can be in a unique way as if God is actually speaking which is unusual to our way of thinking or expression.

SDA and JW organizations believe that, but it is not true. Jesus of Nazareth is Immanuel "God with us", meaning God come in the flesh through woman's womb. He was not created, nor is He some kind of angelic specie, because the word angel simply means 'messenger' and is not a heavenly specie.

The proper name for the angels in heaven is "sons of God", a name that all those who believe on Jesus Christ are now called too, which is because in the future at the redemption of our body by Christ Jesus, we also will have a type body like the angels, which Apostle Paul called a "spiritual body"...

Mark 12:24-27
24 And Jesus answering said unto them, "Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.
