It looks as though some people are responding to me with the belief that I think Satan is a metaphor... No no no no

Let me just be clear about my own belief...

I believe Satan is a real entity...

Ok...

So there's no need to be quoting scripture to me to prove that...
Thanks

It may be true that so many Christians do not believe a literal Satan exists. There is a selection bias because this belief is held by liberal Christians who are the minority here.

From what I've seen liberals who claim they are Christian treat the bible as not being authoratative, disregarding inconvinent parts of it, and misinterpreting it to fit their beliefs.

2 Timothy 4:3 explains.

I'll not repeat their arguements, but there are many.

3 For the time will come when they will not endure the sound doctrine; but, having itching ears, will heap to themselves teachers after their own lusts;

@lforrest Ok... well... when I hear this scripture... I immediately think of the Word of Faith/Prosperity preachers which are on almost every Christian network in North America.

There is also the part about not enduring sound doctrine, so whatever movement this refers to must also include a rejection of orthodox doctrines.

Satan was a created as an angel, angels are spirits. So is God a Spirit and He sure is quite the entity!! Makes me think of the 3rd of the angels cast out of heaven along with Satan and them being the demon spirits...jmo :)

It's amazing that one of his creations was so absorbed with himself that he wanted to sit on the throne of God and be worshipped instead of God. And what's more amazing is 1/3 of the angels followed him!

I guess the 3rd of the angels thought the grass was greener on the "other side", Haha!
It IS hard to imagine how Lucifer, one of the, if not the most beautiful angel became Satan. Beauty can even be a curse to some people!
Sad thing is of course, so many will follow Satan's path :(

Yeah I think this earth born life gives us humans a very different perspective than the angels. We go through a lot of bad things here on Earth which I think makes us appreciate the peace that he gives us much more than angels. If all you knew was peace than you probably wouldn't appreciate it as we do. We long for the end of pain and sin.

Revelation 20:1-3 (NKJV)
1 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; 3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.

one translation says specifically

"Deliver us from the evil one."

Is Satan a real entity or a metaphor for evil?

I recently heard that 40% of Christians think that Satan is a metaphor for evil... What do u think

Is Satan a real entity or a metaphor for evil?

Don't matter what we think!

Satan is the fourth most powerful being in the universe, right behind the Father, Son and Spirit.

He was the anointed cherub and the highest cherub which is the highest order of spirit beings (cherubs, seraphs, angels)

I don't know who they surveyed.
I've ever contemplated anything else but Satan as an entity.
Inrerestingly one person has voted the other way but
I did not vote but I would also lean away from the existence of a separate entity

When he attacks you, you will know he is real.

Not necessarily. Many are oppressed and even die from Satan's attacks. They don't even know who is doing it. MANY think taking meds can defeat Satan.

I believe most Christians need for there to be a entity they reference as Satan. The odd thing is it seems those that are lost are unaware and could care less.

If a person really needs that... God certainly knows it. I don't believe that I need it... but LOL, I have been wrong before. If we are sincere and we are following Him closerly, will He not change whatever needs to be changed?
