One who participates in or promotes an abortion is considered to be a murderer by the Torah. In the Rambam (Laws of Murder and Guarding One’s Soul 4:9) we learn that anyone whose soul becomes blemished with the sin of murder is considered to be completely wicked and all of the Mitzvoth (good deeds) that he does in his lifetime are not comparable to save him from this sin; he will not be spared from judgment. One who entices others to do abortions is considered to be an enticer (in Hebrew: mesit) and he indirectly causes the murder of many unborn babies. It is also prohibited for one to kill themselves (suicide) and one who commits suicide is considered by the Torah to be like a murderer as it is written “However the blood of your souls I will require” (Genesis 9:5 Rashi.) It is explained in the Talmud (Baba Kama 91b) that we are being cautioned in the verse by HaShem,(God) that one who kills them self should know from the outset that he will be held responsible for his action like a murderer.
