Yes, you need to possess the vocabulary. And it's good to know where there are translation issues. I've just found there are SO many places where the KJV really seems to capture what's being said better than the others.

Have you read my review on Dr. Ward's book? He talks about false friends. It's not just a matter of vocabulary. I would recommend reading that book. It is enlightening.

I don't think there is one best translation. Though, I would recommend one in the formal translation camp. My preferred translation is ESV.

The above things you stated could very well change the meaning of what was originally written. I am NOT against the KJV, it is actually my go to but, KJVO?? No. I do believe we should have other versions available, along with concordances, lex., dictionary's. Commentary's and such.

I think the version that anyone prefers or thinks is best is going to be the one the Holy Spirit let you see the most in and taught you with. :)

If that's the only Bible you are reading, then I would say it's better in your case than the 1000's that you aren't.

How can they change the meaning? I already showed you that the meaning does not change, and what was written originally was also translated faithfully. So let's take some example:

have = haue
unto = vnto
graven = grauen
likeness = likenesse
heaven = heauen

My point is the best translation is not necessarily the one you read. You could read and have a heretical translation and you would be worse off.

If God is leading someone to the Message, then let Him work through it. If someone is just picking up a Bible to prove to themselves God doesn't exist, it won't matter which one they are reading. If someone is picking up a Bible in a genuine effort to find God, it won't matter which one they are reading.

The one who seeks finds.

If nothing is what you are seeking, nothing is what you will find, no matter where you look. And if God is what you are seeking, you will find Him, He promised.
