6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
7 But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation. - 1 Timothy 4:6-9.
When you read your bible you can only get out of it what the Holy Spirit releases to you. What is meant by that is; a lot of people read a bible and get nothing maybe or just see something different, or just a little here and a little there. It does not matter what you get out of scripture - you are only going to get out of scripture what the Holy Spirit teaches you or shows you or releases to you at a particular time. It is meant to be that way, he can lead a person by understanding - we get understanding (learning, growing, grace, truth, knowledge, revelation) as he gives it to us. Remember - no stones.
Have you ever noticed most of us see scripture different at times. Now you may attend a group of gathers that see kind of the same thing - there is sound doctrine that we follow but when you begin to talk about the understandings of a particular group - not very many will agree on everything. That's ok disagreements teach us patience with one another - how to handle yourself maybe in searching and sharing - what you understand and the all-importance of reasoning out what we understand as believers with each other and with those that may not understand. Scripture says "be ready to give every man an answer" so what you want to do at that particular time is be ready.
When Paul describes it he describes it as running race; it is described as one preparing for battle in a sport - not unlike the Olympics. When you step into the arena you are ready, prepared and willing. The way Paul described it was; he did more exercise and preparation than his opponent - he trained harder than his opponent - he knew more than his opponent - he understood more than his opponent - he was ready when he stepped into the arena - he knew - Paul knew what he had to do and say. He fully prepared and was ready there was no second guessing in Paul he was clear-cut sharp and pointed. Mentally and spiritually he had exercised those sences - muscles to where they had to be contended with if you were to contend with Paul. He knew in whom he believed - he knew he would come to revelations - he understood his weakness to be his strength - he understood by revelation - the muscular build of the apostle Paul was unfathomable he could not be touched on the gridiron he was a man to be reckoned with even the other apostles said he was hard man to understand.
That great and powerful apostle to the gentiles was a force to be reckoned with even with a small build and stature in the physical, you would have to kill him but you would not stop him - the only way to stop him was in death in a mocking way. Wonderful is our pattern in the scriptures as he follows the Lord.
The Great and mighty apostle Paul had moments he could not put one foot in front of the other - snake bit - shipwrecked - beat by the his own countryman - yet the unstoppable apostle to the gentiles is the pattern for modern day Christianity to know and whom they believe. Trust the Spirit to lead you in a way that you will KNOW as well - you may not know it all, Paul didn't - but he knew enough that is what you need to know - enough. bless you.
