Topic: Lies with Truth

Today’s Scripture: Proverbs 30:5–8

Key Verse: Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. – Proverbs 30:5

Bible in a Year: Job 41–42; Acts 16:22–40

INSIGHT: Proverbs 30:5–6 talks about the significance of “every word of God.” Verse 5 notes the “flawless” nature of the Bible. The Hebrew word used here, sārap, literally means “purified” or “refined.” The term refers to goldsmithing or refining metal—the intensive process done to remove the impurities. Verse 6 demands Scripture remain pure by warning against adding anything to it.

Verses 7–9 focus on clarifying God’s promises. For example, many Bible verses state that the righteous will prosper (see 13:21; 28:25); however, verses 8–9 qualify the promise, warning that having too much (becoming rich) or too little (experiencing poverty) can cause believers to fall. Instead, to find contentment in God the author prays, “Give me only my daily bread” (v. 8).

Our Daily Bread 10th July 2021 Today Devotional Message
I set my Bible on the podium and stared at the eager faces waiting for me to begin the message. I’d prayed and prepared. Why couldn’t I speak?

You’re worthless. No one will ever listen to you, especially if they know your past. And God would never use you. Seared into my heart and mind, these words spoken in various ways over my life ignited a decade-long war against the lies I so easily believed. Though I knew the words weren’t true, I couldn’t seem to escape my insecurities and fears. So I opened my Bible.

Turning to Proverbs 30:5, I inhaled and exhaled slowly before reading out loud. “Every word of God is flawless,” I read, “he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.” I closed my eyes as peace overwhelmed me, and I began to share my testimony with the crowd.

Many of us have experienced the paralyzing power of negative words or opinions others have of us. However, God’s words are “flawless,” perfect and absolutely sound. When we’re tempted to believe spirit-crushing ideas about our value or our purpose as God’s children, God’s enduring and infallible truth protects our minds and our hearts. We can echo the psalmist who wrote: “I remember, Lord, your ancient laws, and I find comfort in them” (Psalm 119:52).

Let’s combat lies we’ve accepted about God, ourselves, and others by replacing negative speak with Scripture.

Reflect & Pray
What lies have you believed? What verses in the Bible have helped you see God, yourself, and others through the truth of Scripture?

Loving Father, please help me to prayerfully study Scripture as You help me view life through the lens of Your truth.

our Daily Bread 2021

Love always, Walter and Debbie

I don’t mean to disrupt your thread because this may not be the direction you meant in your line of thoughts. When I think of Lies with truth I think of every day life. A show I watched the other night is a good example: the father who had been absent shows up at his youngest sons death and appears remorseful. Yet then his real reason is revealed which is to sue for money of wrongful accidental death in hopes to collect a large sum of money. When the mother calls him out he uses his oldest son wanting to go to college to justify needing the money, although he can’t even remember what college his eldest son wishes to go to. That may sound stupid but in every day life how actions are justified and fed as love but there is an underlying motive mixing truth with lies to deceive and manipulate. I’m reminded of where God says He does it for our profit that we may be partakers with Him…and there is no lie mixed with Truth. That if God be for us who can be against us. I’m also reminded of the verse where the one says “stand not by me for I am holier than thou.” We Will say we are preaching Christ yet when saying we are holier than another or always tearing them down …then who really are we preaching if not our own self? So much on your topic of lies with truth…every day life in tearing others down to build ourselves up and then justifying those actions as love. Saving ourselves and our own image while throwing others under the bus to get rolled …yet somehow convincing ourselves and them this is love. You mentioned being told you are worthless…who ever was telling you that your worthless; must have been convinced they are really something.

Acts 17:27-29 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: [28] For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. [29] Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

How true is that. Whether on here or from friends and family, or from teachers or other adults in our pasts, we have all heard those negative remarks that bind us is some way. A teacher told my son he was 'a no hoper' that must have had an adverse effect on a young boy. But in Christ we are bigger than those negative remarks that hurt us because he is in us and he is bigger than all our pasts.

No, VictoryinJesus, I did not say or mean anything, but to post what this message maybe about, and to see what would be someone thoughts viewed in the booklet,

There is a generation being born today that are being told they are worthless. They lash out through violence to be heard.
There will come a time in their future when they will say, I am worthless. No one will ever listen to me, especially because they know my past.
They don't know God. They don't know his love or his promises. And if you try to talk to them they become defensive and sarcastic, like wounded animals in a very thick forest of lies and deceptions.
They are filled with insecurities and fears. They do not understand the Bible.

How can we reach them?

Just sharing my thoughts..
Thank You for sharing
Hugs

I think, We can reach them by showing forth His marvelious works, living the life that we are suppose to, and if we lift Him up, He will draw them unto Himself, some planteth and some watereth, but GOD giveth the increase. Thanks.

Honestly I was considering the “whatsoever make the a lie” in the below passages right before you posted your thread. Revelation 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

Revelation 22:15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

Understand (I think) what you are saying about when you stood there with your bible open on the podium and those voices inside your head started to whisper…but they got planted in there somehow yea? I’ve heard those voices “you are worthless with nothing to give” and can relate…
