16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him.
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. - Colossians 1:16-17.
The world will get alot worse as time goes along. Our text says "and by him all things consist." That means Jesus keeps this world going and nothing will destroy it. This creation of his is here to serve a purpose. He created all things and all things consist by him because man would destroy himself if left to himself. You cannot place to much stock in man operating this world, they can't do it. The knowledge of good and evil cannot run this world. They try but it is held together by Christ and will not be destroyed until it has fulfilled It's purpose for creation. The world is not your enemy, Satan is the enemy of your soul not the world. So as a Christian you live in the world but the world has no control over you, why is that? Jesus said "be of good cheer for I have overcome the world." What does that mean for a believer? It means they have the overcomer in them. Christ who overcame the world is in you and can still overcome the world. That should be good news for those that struggle with the world.
The world will keep rocking along because all things consist by Christ, he keeps it together and no one will destroy it. I think about what Jesus said about the end times "there will be wars and rumors of wars" we have famines and all sorts of debaucheries. But none of these things destroy the world, that is because of Christ. It will get alot worse than we know it now and even Christian's may suffer more but it will not be destroyed until the consisting powers of Christ be lifted. Why is that important? Because Christian's can go on and live their life and be a blessing to those in the world if possible. Life can get complicated enough with out worrying about the world.
The world takes care of it's own, and like Paul said he became "all things to all men that you might win a few." You do not have to fit into the world, you can never fit into the world again, you were saved out of the world. But what you can do is reach back into the world. We live in the world and if you look at the world you can see where you can be a blessing to the world. Darkness is on the world and you are the light. It's like when a baby is born into the world of coarse people rejoice for this innocent child. But what we don't realize is that baby has a sin nature and one day will have to choose right or wrong with the knowledge they have. They are just as capable of doing things Hitler did or some other depraved individual.
That is what makes up the world so the world has rules and if you break them you are punished, if you keep the rules you can fit into society and be one of them. Kind of sounds like some church's. So point being the world is not your enemy and we can live in it without it overcoming the believer.
