8:49 a.m. April 22, 2008PHOENIX – Red colored lights that formed a square and then a triangle were seen floating over north Phoenix late Monday, a sight reminiscent of an unexplained 1997 sighting that has become part of the area's lore. There was no immediate word where they came from.AdvertisementThe Air Force said the lights weren't from any of their flight operations and officials at Deer Valley airport and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport could not explain it.The lights were visible for about 13 minutes around 8 p.m. Monday.A Luke Air Force Base official said the base wasn't flying any aircraft in the sky Monday night and that the lights are not part of any Air Force activities.KSAZ-TV, a local Fox affiliate in Phoenix, reported that officials from Phoenix Deer Valley Airport saw the lights approximately 4 miles south of the airport and that the lights were rising as they watched.Airport officials said the lights were not from any aircraft at that airport.Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said that air traffic controllers at Sky Harbor also witnessed the lights, but do not know the cause. On March 13, 1997, thousands of residents reported seeing a mile-wide, v-shaped formation of lights over the Phoenix area. In that case, the lights appeared about 7:30 p.m. and lasted until 10:30 p.m.

I think the explanation is obvious. The glowing square and triangle from last night is obviously the aliens practicing their shapes and the v-shape from '97 was a large flock of glowing birds. I say birds because flocks of birds fly in V-shape formations so to minimize wind resistance for birds near the back of the formation.

Thanks for the video Kriss. This is the first one I have seen on this particular sighting. Went to go read about it on the CNN page and it kept saying page wasn't available. All the other articles came across fine.

Interesting, and creepy. Hard to say what it is. Technically, I guess they are UFO's because that's what the acronym means, "unidentified" which may or may not be life from elsewhere. If you read down the comments of this video, I like that one guy's possibility. He said they could be sky lanterns. Makes sense since they were in a formation that gradually drifted around as would probably happen if they are released in a pattern and wind currents gradually move them relative to one another. One thing I did notice in the video. Below them was a flashing light of a real airplane. Wonder if that pilot saw anything?

If I would have seen these things take off at tremendous velocity or something to that effect, then I would question as to whether this was some sort of intelligent craft. But they seemed to fade away and just float around relative to one another. Sky lanterns could fit into this realm of possibility. However, we don't know what they were, so they technically do remain "unidentified". Whether or not they are extraterrestrial is another story.
