Wow, I'm seeing alot of wisdom in this thread. Duke got it right that the humility required to simply listen to reason and take advice (sound doctrine) is severely lacking in modern Christian teaching. There is too much INTELLECTUAL and scholarly objection and resistance to sound doctrine and reasoning, everyone wants to be 'SUPERSCHOLAR' and say "But this verse, but that verse" and "Well, I draw this conclusion because the exegetical hermeneutics of the Latin Vulgate version in the 6th century..."...NO DEDICATION TO OBJECTIVE TRUTH (2 Thessalonians 2:10, ("refused to love the TRUTH and so BE SAVED").Arniem said it right also. Many Christians are only posting verses or passages without really saying anything of THEIR OWN thought processes (sadly VERY common). It's all because of a lack of PASSION for TRUTH.
