I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this post but I have an issue I'd like some help with. A young friend of mine is going through some serious trauma. His 2-month old baby boy Samuel is having violent siezures that, as yet, the doctors have not identified. Needless to say he and his wife are terrified. They are not saved but we've been working on that. He isn't working and, I hate to say, isn't trying as hard as he should to find work. Now his father-in-law who is a church-goer and claims to be saved has told him the baby's siezures are God's punishment for him not working. I'm searching the scriptures for some texts to refute that. I have found a few (the entire book of Job...) but I would like some help putting together an argument for my young friend. He's already resistant to the gospel and "organized religion" and I'm afraid something as heinous as this notion will only serve to push him farther away.

Darling the best answer is the Word of God, Jesus NEVER harmed any child, He healed children of seizures.....We are under Grace not wrath, for God has no wrath left, He poured it out on the cross....So if the Word says....All God's wrath was placed on Jesus...none is left...Pray for that child...lay hands on it and ask the Lord for total healing....Believe in your heart that Jesus is the healer, the miracle maker and ask Jesus to remove the seizures, pour His blood over this child and heal him..That will bring your friends to Christ...as for the father in law...I would tell him to read the New Testament and seek Jesus, cause Jesus is a savior, not someone would inflicts illness on children....and to use the word of God to condemn is against Jesus anyway...can't scare people to Him...

Ezekiel 18:20 "The soul who sins is the one who will die. The son will not share the guilt of the father, nor will the father share the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous man will be credited to him, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against him."

Tell the old man to put that verse in his pipe and smoke it.

Darling the best answer is the Word of God, Jesus NEVER harmed any child,

What about David's son who died because of David's sin? David was told by a prophet that the boy would die because of David. Sometimes, sickness and death (even of an innocent) is caused because of sin. Sometimes it has nothing to do with sin. I don't believe that God would take the child of a non-believer just because the man isn't looking too hard for work, although I could be wrong. While I do believe I know God's mind on some matters clearly shown to us in scripture, there is much I don't know about the way He thinks and works.

However, while God chastises believers because of sin, I don't think He does that with unbelievers. His only concern with them is that they come to His Son for forgiveness and salvation. Sometimes it's nothing more than just sickness and not a punishment from God. God is not always the cause of sickness or death; sin brought sickness and death into the world.

David I do believe was OT..I am talking NT...find in the NT where Jesus took any child or caused harm to any child or any person..Not there....Jesus is the ruler now..all power and authority was given to Him...

To me, that kind of thing doesn't deserve much of a response. I'd be pretty short. I don't think God is like that.
