On the other hand IF (I said IF because I don't know their identity) the two olive trees are alluding to Zerubabel (political office as governor of Judea) and Joshua (religious office of high priest) and the the two churches to a faithful "last of the last days" remnant, then no one who has a different interpretation will ackoweldge these two prophets. He wouldn't be the first person to imagine himself to be one of the 2 witnesses.
As to your question. I think the very first thing Christian teachers and churches need to do to stop these kind of imaginations is to reexamine their own error - namely our tendency to over-literalise the book of Revelation. It is a book of symbols. Yes, symbols that represent literal realities, but symbols nonetheless. The 2 witnesses represent the Church of God, who in the last days will exercise spiritual power and authority like that of Moses and Elijah.
As long as Bible teachers, Pastors, evangelists, et al, choose to titillate the ears of their hearers with description of two super-heroes running around the earth, calling down fire from heaven, we will have delusions like the friend you are worried about.
I should have said, witnesses. He thinks he's one of them.
They will be able to strike the earth with plagues. That would be a give-away. Also, they will torch anyone who tries to hurt them.Of course I think he's completely deluded. What are some of the attributes that would clearly define these two prophets?

What reason does he have to believe this?Of course I think he's completely deluded. What are some of the attributes that would clearly define these two prophets?
