Need an opinion about trollys

Okay. Here is the deal.

If I am walking 3-5 miles round trip to get groceries, carrying 14 lbs of cat litter and another 5 pounds of litter on my back gets kind of hard. My body weight is somewhere around 100 lbs.

I've been paying attention to how other people do it, but I just noticed a lot of shopping carts left in random places but I am not going to steal the stores shopping cart.

So I found this cute thing and it looks durable to me.

This is where my anxiety kicks in, I don't care if I look weird. I care if it works and getting the job done, what I AM concerned about is going to the grocery store and someone getting mad at me or assuming I'm shoplifting or something going wrong on the road. But it also looks like it would hold up in the snow.

So I found this one, which is more of what would work for me since I can throw it over my shoulder until I'm done, but the reviews are not the best.

Sounds like the wheels aren't very good, which I can probably replace myself, but I will be upset if it breaks. Also like that it looks like I can use it for travel so if I end up having to duck out and run, I can just use that for luggage and I would have never wasted money for a short time.

Other one would be a bit big to carry on a bus or a train.

Thoughts?

During lockdown I had to book shopping slots for me and my dad, as everyone was taking the slots I chose to have his shopping come to me and I would use a shopping trolley to take his shopping to him ( he lives just down the road from me ) His old trolly lasted a few months, but it had already served him well for some years. I had to carry quite a heavy load, eventually the little wheels broke. The new trolly only lasted me a month before the little wheels broke. So make sure the little wheels are not cheap plastic, but quite solid. Also they do trolleys with four wheels over here, much more durable xx

Hi @FluffyYellowDuck Interesting thread; the second option looks as if it's quite versatile right? can be either carried or wheeled..... :)

The lady in the second picture might be young and have the energy to carry the bag, in any case, don't you think?

@Rita Very good point; some items are just not built to last....

Needs to be thought about beforehand. (A bit like inexpensive umbrellas that don't last long...)

@Rita What I couldn't stand was, a new, folding umbrella over there that I would obtain, would blow inside out seemingly at the slightest gust of wind and be no more use.....

Re. trolleys, I can see the relevance of having a good trolley more than I did...

If you're worried about what others think you could use a cart and put the trolly under it until you checkout.

These things are a lot more popular in countries where people walk more or take public transportation.

Thanks! You know what I think I'll do is if the wheels do break off on me, I'll see if I can take the metal wheels off my Rubbermaid cart and replace them.

I have already had a bag break on me at an intersection while I was crossing. The panic was strong.


Btw, what are slots? Not sure we have those here..

That settles it, I'm ordering the second one now. In a different pattern. If I see spring flowers and summery patterns in the middle of winter, it will irritate me.

It will look cute enough.

In the second photo, the face is out of the picture, but the lady has young looking hands and wears leather pants, so this is why I just assumed she is younger...

I bought an umbrella for a couple dollars during summer because if you buy things out of season, nobody else is interested so they're a good deal. (I think $1.50 used.)

Finally had to use it and my son (almost 13) refused to stand under the umbrella with me while I was holding it because "it's just not right" he said.

So HE had to hold it and he is a little guy for his age. So I put my hood on and let him carry it for himself.

As it turns out my son has no idea how to hold an umbrella properly. That thing was flying in the wind everywhere. Kept getting hit in the face with it. Need a better, bigger umbrella.

I use tote bags inside for privacy and to hold small things, otherwise, the hand shopping basket the store supplies fits right on top, so I can roll it around the store. I learned the hard way the small wheels can catch in a crack and stop the thing, so now I pull it instead of pushing it. I literally went tumbling over the thing . . . imagine . . . a 60 year old man tumbling over the top of his shopping basket onto the pile of spilled out groceries!! I must have been a sight!

@marks Yes, well, some older ladies have definitely become quite dexterous in using their trolleys, by weight of experience...:)

Oh I had looked at those, too! Ahh! I'm glad you made it!! I have to walk a while through some risky traffic so I was worried about the size and losing control of it somehow!

It's not the easiest thing to control. But I like the size and rigidity of it, and it's easy to totally overload by stacking stuff on top, dangling bags from the handle. But on smooth pavement it's like nothing at all! Bigger steering wheels would be better I think.

Thanks everyone for the help.. I took the plunge and got the second one that seems to come with a carrying bag?

and duck boots.

Because whats a duck without some 80s duck boots? (Or workout shoes won't do in the rain and they were really cheap)
