News agencies have the right to freedom of the press. There are laws that can be broken in that area regarding immoral and unethical exposure that might result in someones harm or rights being violated. An example might be exposing classified information which is kept secret to protect society. And in that idea people have the right to privacy.
I saw a recent news article and picture of a news reporter aiming a recording camera at a military official and also holding up a recording microphone. They were investigating potential criminal activity on a military Army base that had potentially hazardess living conditons. There was black mold and other dangerous conditions in the barracks.
Lawmakers demand answers from Army over squalid barracks conditions, scant progress since damning report
And that got me thinking. First in an arrest of a crime an officer of the law reads a person their rights which includes the right to remain silent. The news reporting pictured in the Fox news article appears to be asking the military official questions. There is also the possibility that someone might accidentally say something that did not represent the truth. It is a flaw in human communication and as we know on social media needs correction. That leads me to another right we have regarding testifying during a criminal trial which is the right to refuse to be a witness in their own trial on the grounds that they might incriminate themselves. Once a statement is made public, it might not be able to be retracted. And the affects on the public are considered permanent although that is another area of debate.

I have seen many violent actions reported in the news over the years and it always seems to come up frequently addressed and perhaps even chosen certain articles. They are often black criminals and also mentally ill compromised individuals. They are shocking and perhaps make a lot of money for the news agencies. And the black people and mentally ill unless already processed thru a ciminal trial and found guilty are innocent until proven guilty. And it might be the tendency of the audience of the news reports to judge black people and mentally ill compromised people. I think as an intelligent responsible good Christian or even morally and ethically sound individual in society, not to draw conclusions without factual evidence connecting beyond a reasonable doubt that the pictured suspects are guilty of the crimes they are either suspected of or accused of. A pre trial picture is often placed on those suspicious articles, perhaps to warn people of a specific individual. And there may be a lot of avenues of what might happen for that person represented in public by the news in that particle way.
I have seen family and even friends draw a very black and white judgmental and racist conclusion regarding what the black people are like and up to in society. So given that experience, I don't disclose my own mental illness in public. I have an alias I use. It appears like some people that watch the news have a problem not assuming all black people are dangerous or mentally ill compromised people are also dangerous.
The problem I see as a mentally ill person myself is the disclosure of mental illness in these news articles. It is a sensitive issue. And possible a HIPPA violation and therefore a crime. It might be called a HIPPA if the label and doctor diagnosis is retrieved without the consent of the mentally ill people. I suspect most of the information about a suspects mental illness is given by family and friends or neighbors. Is that to help that mentally ill person that is facing a criminal trial. Or is it some gesture saying, "well they were mentally ill and that is why all this happened". And if that is the case then it is now an immoral, unethical reason to assign a crime to a mental illness as a cause. And it is most likely a lie:
It is more often for the mentally ill community that they are the victims of abuse rather than the aggressor. They are often children and mentally compromised and may be difficult to care for, which can further lead to abuse from members in their support area. And also there is bullying at school for children who are different.
"It is assumed by many that where there is abuse, there is mental illness underlying it. The National Domestic Violence Hotline emphasizes that this is a misconception. While there could be abuse in a relationship where a partner has a mental illness--those two issues are separate and must be treated as such. Mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), narcissistic personality or bipolar disorders are not what cause abuse." Is Mental Illness to Blame For Abuse
With discrimination already discussed of black people and mentally ill I can see problems already in their treatment from society. Especially when facing a jury of peers that might be confused about reality and have some normal paranoia regarding mentally ill and black people behaviors. It takes a psychiatrist that is well experienced in his work with years of wisdom to even address a mental illness, and yet we have un-educated jury members deciding whether they are guilty of crimes and I certainly hope they have no bias which is prejudice against those groups.
And mental illness disclosure already might say to the jury they cannot be believed as a witness in court. There is also finding if the person is mentally fit to stand trial, and I thought I saw a waiting period to still bring that person to trial. I had a question of whether convicting a person that was not of their right mind was even morally and ethically sound in the first place. I was concerned about society and where it was heading.
I must therefore advise any mentally ill people not to disclose to society openly that they have a mental illness. As they may face prejudice in society.
