Hebrews 9:11-12, in any human legal or religious system, the roles are always separate, the priest is one person, the sacrifice is a different creature, the person who writes the will is someone else entirely, these roles are never combined. Jesus Christ fills all three, he is priest, he did not send a representative, he did not delegate, he is the sacrifice, the priest and the offering are the same person and he is the testator. Hebrews 9:16-17, describes Jesus Christ as the one whose death activated the will, he is the one who made the promises and he is the one who died to release them.

No other figure in history has ever occupied all three roles at one, no High Priest ever offered himself, no sacrifice ever chose its own death, no testator ever came back after dying to personally deliver the inheritance, but Jesus Christ did all of it, he wrote the will, he died to activate it and he rose again to make sure every heir receives what was promised. The old system required repetition, every year, the High Priest had to enter the Holy of Holies again, every year, new blood, every year, the same ritual and every year, the same reminder that last year’s sacrifice was not enough.

Hebrews 9:25-26, that in those sacrifices, there is a reminder of sins every single year, every time the High Priest walked behind that curtain, every time the blood was sprinkled, it announced to the entire nation, you are still guilty, last year’s payment was not enough, here we are again. The old system was like a debt payment plan that never reached the final balance, every year, another payment, every year, the debt still standing, every year, the reminder that it was not resolved, but the cross was the final payment, the balance reached zero and it will never accumulate again.

If you are a believer who keeps returning to guilt over sins that have already been forgiven, the sacrifice was once for all, the conscience was cleansed, you are not living under a system that requires annual renewal. You are not supposed to carry the weight of sins that have already been put away, you are living under a covenant sealed by a death so complete, that repetition is unnecessary, but did you realize the cross was not the end of Jesus Christ’s work, it was the beginning of a new kind of work. Hebrews 9:24, right now, at this very moment, Jesus Christ is in the presence of God, the earthly tabernacle was a copy, the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies were representations of something real that exists in heaven.

When God told Moses to build the tabernacle, Exodus 25:40, Moses did not design it, he reproduced something he was shown, a heavenly original and centuries later, in the book of Revelation, John looks into heaven and sees the same elements. John sees the Ark of the Covenant in heaven’s temple, he sees the temple itself, the copies on earth pointed to originals in heaven and when Jesus Christ died and rose again, he did not enter a building made by human hands, he entered the original, the real throne room, the actual presence of God and he is there now, representing every person who belongs to him. Whatever you are going through right now, whatever burden you are carrying, whatever accusation you feel pressing down on your conscience, there is someone in the throne room of heaven who appears before God on your behalf.
