[Mark 12:32-34 KJV] 32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: 33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love [his] neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. 34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him [any question].
Jesus was not saying that by keeping these commandments the scribe would have eternal life, but rather, Jesus was saying he was not far from entering the earthly kingdom on earth. The kingdom was promised to believing Israel who will reign with Christ for a thousand years. To enter the kingdom believing Israel had to keep the law to able to enter the kingdom.............[Matthew 5:20 KJV] 20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed [the righteousness] of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
For Israel entering the kingdom was somehow related to entering into life as Jesus alluded to............[Matthew 19:17 KJV] 17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
I find it interesting that these verses speak of water of life and the tree of life...........[Revelation 22:1 KJV] 1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
[Revelation 22:14 KJV] 14 Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
