Paul never said in 1Corinthians 1:17 or anywhere else that Paul taught his gospel did not include water baptism.
To interpret 1Corinthians 1:17 this way is to misunderstand what Paul is saying.

This is why it needs to be taught what Paul is saying.
- for Christ sent me not only to baptize but to preach the gospel

There is only one gospel:
Ephesians 4:5,
- one Lord, one faith, one baptism
You are being very disengenuous here. You added the word only when it is not there and thus changed the entire meaning of the passage- That is blatantly wrong!

Paul baptized some people, but water baptism is not part of the gospel of salvation!

Eph. 2:8-10 and romans 10:9-13 are the gospel Paul preached. It is trusting in the death, burial and physical resurrection for ones sins that saves the person. Water baptism is essential for discipleship not salvation.

Also the Baptism Jesus taught was the Baptism by the Spirit which occurs at the moment one is sacved.

1Corinthians 1:14-17,
- I thank God I baptized none of you(those involved in the carnal division in the church at Corinth)
- I thank God I baptized none of you but Crispus and Gaius
- Lest any should say that I had baptized in my own name
- and I also baptized the household of Stephanas besides I know not whether I baptized any other

Paul's statement saying he cannot remember all who he baptized means he's baptized many.

Again if Paul only baptized few then he would remember.
Since during his missionary ministry he baptized so many he could not remember all of them.

Then explain what Paul means.

No I rightly divided exactly what Paul means.

Answer my question,
1Corinthians 1:17,
- for Christ sent me not to baptize(Question: Did Christ send him not to baptize? )
- ....but to preach the gospel(Was Paul teaching that he was instructed by Jesus to only preach and not to baptize? )

As I've already proven.
Paul's gospel is the great commission. Which Jesus commanded ALL of his apostles to preach to ALL nations.
This one gospel includes baptism.
To claim it does not is disingenuous.

Matthew 28:18-20,
- Go ye therefore and teach all nations baptizing them(all nations) in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you...

The one gospel of Jesus Christ includes water baptism said Jesus.

You give me an english Bible that does not add words to the Greek?
All greek scholars add english words to scripture.
I'll be waiting for that Bible.

Being saved is one thing and water baptism is another thing as follow, since both are a 'package' unto salvation according to the Kingdom of GOD.

Ephesians 2:8 is parallel to John 3:3, that first one need to be 'borm from above' in order to 'see' the Kingdom of GOD.

That is firstly, 'For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of GOD.'

'So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the Word(Christ) of GOD.' (Romans 10:17)

For unbelievers, the Gospel the Word(Christ) of GOD is the Kingdom of GIOD, where one 'born from above' will be able to 'see' the message within.

Apparently, since 'born from above' by the 'gift of GOD', that is by grace and through faith able to 'see', they'll respond in conviction and in guilt of their sins.

Next, the same one need to be 'born of water and of the Holy Ghost' in order to 'enter' the Kingdom of GOD (John 3:5), and hence power is given to become children of GOD'.

On the day of Pentecost, Apostle Peter ministered the Gospel to the crowd, and upon hearing they were cut to the heart by the message, since able to 'see' the Kingdom of GOD.

As follow they responded, '.........., what shall we do?'

'Repent and be baptized(of water) every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.' (John 3:5)

In order to 'enter' the Kingdom of GOD, period. (John 3:5)

Shalom in the name of Lord Jesus Christ
No, water immerse baptism today is not a requirement for FJ to enter Heaven
1 Cor 1 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize,
If it was then why didn't Jesus VIA Paul teach it ?
If Jesus VIA Paul did, please list the verses :)

You are adding to what Paul taught so Gal 1 6-9, Gal 3 1-4 is your warning

The context of 1Corinthians chapter one nowhere teaches about Paul only baptizing a  few people during his missionary ministry.
1 Corinthians 1:
14. I thank GOD that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius,
15. so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name.
16. (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptize anyone else.)
17. For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, ...........................

Paul did not baptize just a few Corinthians.
THE BIBLE NEVER TEACHES THIS.

Acts 18:8,
- and Crispus the chief ruler of the synagogue believed on the Lord with all his house and  many of the Corinthians hearing believed and were baptized
Acts 18:
5. When Silas and Timothy arrived from Macedonia, Paul was occupied with the word, testtifying to the Jews that the Christ was Jesus.
8. ............................................................................ And many of the Corinthians hearing Paul believed and were baptized.

Beloved true born again readers, if you have from the Lord wisdom given from above ears, listen and pay attention, thank you.

These scripture i've quoted verifies that Paul's letter to the Corinthian church is after the accounts in the book of Acts.

As Paul in the same letter remember baptizing Crispus prior as in the account of Acts ch. 18, who's among few he baptized in Corinthin mentioned by name in 1 Corinthians ch. 1.

Now as to the account of Acts 18:8, 'many of the Corinthiansn hearing Paul believed and were baptized', have no justification that Paul baptized the 'many'.

Because it will only contradict to what he testifies later in his letter to the Corinthian church, that he only baptized a few even namimg them and not any one else.

Therefore we can only conclude that Silas and Timothy(vs.5) who were with Paul (probably other believers with them), baptized the 'many' who believed hearing Paul.

On the other hand, we can also conclude that Paul was occupied with the word(vs.5) and not baptism, since Christ send him not to baptize but to preach the gospel.

Titus, you have to learn first of all the scripture in context and sound doctrine to the matter before you teach and correct others, period

Shalom in the name of Lord Jesus Christ

Are you a two gospels dispensationalist?
Are you teaching water baptism is not in Paul's gospel?
The gnostics were the first recorded sect that used 1Corinthians 1:17, claiming Paul was against water baptism.

1 Cor 1 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize,
Please be wise rather than unwise picking words out of context to the scripture, and 'twist' to your unlearned preference, thank you.

Christ did not send Paul to baptize because baptism was already in place way before Paul, from John the Baptist to Christ, to the Apostles and church.

Nevertheless, yet Paul did baptized a few, meaning water baptism is required as part of the salvation order, proclaimed by Master Jesus Himself (John 3:3&5).

You're a lamb still taking on 'milk', unable to comprehend 2Timothy3:16&17 as a man of GOD, as what you've brought to the table is the fruit we know or comprehend in the spirit.

'You will know them by their fruits.'

This article is an examination of 1Corinthians 1:17.
Together we will learn what Paul means by his statement: - for Christ sent me not to baptize but to preach the gospel.

First we need to learn about elliptical construction in grammar.
Elliptical construction in grammar is when a sentence leaves out a word or phrase that is understood from the context, because repeating it would be unnecessary.

Examples of elliptical construction:
"I came not to argue but to teach"
The sentence doesnt necessarily mean:
"I will never argue"
Rather, the contrast is between the purpose for coming: arguing was not the purpose; teaching was.
LANGUAGE USAGE. This is where translation and study notes are so important.

  • Kissed the Blarney Stone has a non-literal meaning.
  • Door nails where never alive so to be as dead as one is lost.
  • Recently, I was thinking of my Japanese coworkers who laughed in not understanding our idiom, "I can't stand it."
Jesus references mill stones, skins for wine. These expressions aren't in use in our culture. So, the meaning is lost even with a literal translation.

Since I learned to speak over half a century ago, there has been a rapid move toward compressing meaning and words. Kentucky Fried Chicken became KFC. Federal Express became FedEx. We don't even use whole words now. Did you download that app?

"I didn't mean to offend you" is another modern example of the elliptical construction that you pointed out. Thanks for the article.

I think I came across another example in my devotional reading today at Acts 10:39. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree.

Either Jesus died by crucifixion or hanging.

As a youngster I saw this as proof the Bible is not inerrant. We don’t use that idiom today.

so much focus on the work of water baptism.

it has become an idol for some people.

Paul seperated water baptism from the gospel. he did not say he did not baptise people.

that is what the passage is about. trying to insert grammar or whatever else to try to continue a works based gospel which included baptism does not help

Well, you're in good company,
Quote me teaching that salvation is not by grace but a works based system of merit?
Until you can give credible evidence, all you're doing is strawmanning my position.

More straw,
Where is the passage that identifies water baptism as a work of merit?
Until you produce the passage, your definition of baptism is unscriptual.

Your false accusation can be used against anything God requires man to do.

God told Noah to build a boat.
Noah built the ark.
Noah was saved in the ark.
Therefore Noah put his faith in his work(ark) not God.

Same false accusation ET is using against me.

Acts 18:8,
- and Crispus the chief ruler of the synagogue believed on the Lord with all his house and  many of the Corinthians hearing believed and were baptized

Paul baptized Crispus and the passage says he and his household believed and were baptized.
To interpret this verse as Paul not being the one baptizing except for Crispus and Gaius is poor reading on their part. Paul baptized Crispus. Why would Paul not also baptize Crispus' household?
The scriptures give no reason not to infer this.
Now as to the account of Acts 18:8, 'many of the Corinthiansn hearing Paul believed and were baptized', have no justification that Paul baptized the 'many'.

Because it will only contradict to what he testifies later in his letter to the Corinthian church, that he only baptized a few
a few even naming them and not any one else
For good reason Paul specifically named Crispus and Gaius.
Anyone who takes the time to read 1Corinthians chapter one. Would know why.

1Corinthians 1:11-16,
- for it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chole
that there are contentions(quarrels, disputes, strife among the house of Chole)
among you(house of Chole)

- now this I say that everyone of you(house of Chole) saith, I am of Paul and I of Apollos and I of Cephas and I of Christ
- is Christ divided was Paul crucified for you or were you baptized in the name of Paul
- I thank God I baptized none of you(house of Chole) but Crispus and Gaius

- I also baptized the household of Stephanas besides I know not whether I baptized any other

Crispus and Gaius are not of the household of Chole.

The context proves it was the household of Chole that Paul didn't baptize.

He did baptize the household of Stephanas.
He baptized Crispus and Gaius.
Paul baptized whole households and baptized Crispus.
Then why not Crispus household? Paul taught Crispus he taught the Corinthians the gospel.

Now as to the account of Acts 18:8, 'many of the Corinthiansn hearing Paul believed and were baptized', have no justification that Paul baptized the 'many
Acts 18:11,
- and Paul, continued there(Corinth) a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them(Corinthians)

So when Paul says he was thankful he baptized none of you.
If you actually read Corinthians, you will know that is speaking only of Chole's household.
They were the ones causing division in the church at Corinth.

So the  many should contextually be attributed to Paul,
Acts 18:8,
- and Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue believed on the Lord with all his household
And  many of the Corinthians hearing believed and were baptized

What you teach: Galatians 1:8-9.

No you wrongly divided the word of God by adding only! No one can add to the word of God, especially when it changes the meaning of a passage!

As to your first question- What did Paul say in 1 Cor. 1:17- Jesus did not send him to baptize! why do you question what god inspired?
As to teh 2nd part- in context you would understand. Paul taught many things, but before he taught those, He saved people with the gospel message only!!

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

And teh Baptism that saves is the Baptism in the spirit which happens the moment one trusts in teh death and resurrection of Jesus for their sins.

Water Baptism is for believers only! Not one getting saved but one who is already saved.
