...that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. (Isaiah 61:3b)

We need to bring truth back into Biblical perspective. I am convinced that truth overly emphasized to the neglect of other truths can lead one into error. It is time for the church to reevaluate and examine the fruit of some of its doctrine.

What has happened to the church since the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the 60's and 70's?

During that time, the Lord brought revival that moved everywhere. From the streets amongst the rejects of society to the mainline churches. True Koinonia and community sprang up all over the land. The nominal christian was even convicted of his lostness and lack of true repentance. People left jobs to serve the Lord fulltime, home groups started, churches sprang up and God recovered important truths for His people as He brought repentance, restoration and reconciliation. It truly was an exciting and adventurous time for many.

But looking back, I ask again, what has happened since then? Today, we look back and see a road littered with awful carnage. Divorce rates that rival the world, sheep scattered by unfaithful shepherds that "failed them", others using godliness for gain and the fruit of their drive for success and prestige is a defrauded sheepfold. Cynicism and disappointment replaced hope and joy and the Church is now suffering the scorn of the world. The Gospel is being preached around the world through satellite technology yet the world is no longer listening. Are we in the time of the "Falling Away" spoken of in 2 Thess 2:3?

Many Christians have returned to the world and others are finding themselves in a wilderness of such dimensions that there seems no way out. It is hard to believe that so many that walked in so much joy, are now apathetic and bitter. Is this the fruit of a strong move of God or is this the ultimate fruit of a lack of a fear of God and of making a place in one's heart for just a few idols? That was certainly always the pattern for God's people in the Old Testament. Not much has changed.

The Spirit of God is given to convince the world of "sin, righteousness and judgment", John 16:8. Was the world convinced of sin, righteousness and judgment in the last revival? We can say now, no more than the church was convinced. What did the church do with the anointing of God? It built bigger buildings, created a program for every need and counted the nickels, numbers and noses.

Now the church has everything to attract the world except the glory of God. God's glory passed because the glory of God will not abide without righteousness. Righteousness is the carnage that has been left on the road of yesteryear.

When God brings revival He brings the "Regal Duo", Holiness and Righteousness. These are the basis of relationship with God. Without righteousness and holiness there is no relationship and without relationship there is no hope and no joy.

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. Titus 2:11-14

If you are in the desert in your Christian walk, make a highway for your God and He will transform your desert into a fertile land. Isaiah says in chapter 40, to "make straight in the desert a highway for our God".

The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. (Isa 40:3-5)

Mountains and hills speak of pride and valleys speak of rejection, crooked places are more kinds of sin and rough places are areas in our lives that need deliverance and healing.

You make straight paths for the Lord by repenting of all your sin and removing all the idols in your heart, then the glory of the Lord will be revealed in your life.
Now is the time for you to draw near to God so that He may draw near to you. You draw near by coming to him in repentance and godly sorrow. The desert that you are in has no life and very few resources that can enable you to survive. It is a place of isolation, sorrow, despair and barrenness and many die in the desert. Contrast that with a beautiful and fertile field and abundance of life with joy and hope.

God, by His Holy Spirit wants to bring life to you, establish righteousness in you and reveal God's glory through you, conforming you to the image of Jesus Christ. Wherever you are in life right now, if you are reading this, there is always hope in Jesus Christ. Come to Him now and give Him all your failures, sins and burdens. You never could live the Christian life in your own strength, you never will be able to. It is not meant to be that way. You must draw your life from Him. In Him alone is life and apart from Him there is no life.

Until the spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness be a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest. Then judgment shall dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness remain in the fruitful field. And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever. And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places; (Isa 32:15-18)

Come to Jesus Christ with your whole heart and do not be joined to anything in your heart but Him.

Very good message Axehead,

We don't hear enough about hope and you covered that well in this, as well as revival and getting back to biblical perspective.

Amen! brother!

Holiness is built on righteousness...like an upper floor is built on a ground floor. The allusion to an upper room speaks of the intimacy of the fellowship of Jesus and the brethren.

It is very posible to hold the truth in unrighteousness..

Rom_1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

This the the major symptom of a church gone astray through the reasoning of men...

Man cannot duplicate the walk in Christ which is a constant death (like a man ready to jump off a bridge) AND a quickened life in the presence of God. A man can duplicate joy and praise and prophecy and tongues...but one whisper of the cost of discipleship and the "peace" turns into a carnal reaction that only fools the others that wear the same mask.

Amen to all. Holiness and Righteousness, as Trees of Righteousness! He has planted us cultivated and watered us and we eat the fruit! We are His Garden of Eden in which are all manner of Fruit for us to partake of, I just LOVE this Garden He has made us!
I just love this topic of Trees of Righteousness, it seems appropriate to bring forth the related scriptures for further blessings so here goes :)

(Isa 61:3) To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
(Pro 13:12) Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.
(Gen 2:9) And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
(Gen 3:2) And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
(Deu 8:8) A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey;
(1Ki 6:32) The two doors also were of olive tree; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold, and spread gold upon the cherubims, and upon the palm trees.
(1Ki 10:12) And the king made of the almug trees pillars for the house of the LORD, and for the king's house, harps also and psalteries for singers: there came no such almug trees, nor were seen unto this day.
(Rev 3:12) Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God,
Pro 3:13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
...
(Pro 3:18) She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.
(1Ch 16:33) Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD, because he cometh to judge the earth.
(Psa 1:3) And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
(Psa 96:12) Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice
(Psa 148:7) Praise the LORD from the earth ye...
(Psa 148:9)...Mountains, and all hills; fruitful trees, and all cedars:
(Pro 11:30) The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
(Pro 15:4) A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.
(Son 2:3) As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.
(Son 4:12) A garden inclosed is my sister, my spouse; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed.
(Son 4:13) Thy plants are an orchard of pomegranates, with pleasant fruits; camphire, with spikenard,
(Son 4:14) Spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices:
(Son 4:15) A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon.
(Jer 17:8) For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
(Eze 47:7) Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank of the river were very many trees on the one side and on the other.
(Eze 47:12) And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.
(Zec 1:11) And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.
(Zec 4:3) And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.
(Mar 8:24) And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
(Luk 21:29) And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees...
(Mat 13:3) And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;
(Mat 21:43) Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.
(Mat 15:13) But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.
(1Co 3:6) I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
(1Co 3:7) So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
(1Co 3:8) Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
(Gal 5:22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
(Gal 5:23) Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
(Gal 5:24) And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
(Rev 2:7) He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
(Rev 7:3) Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.
(Rev 11:4) These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
(Rev 22:2) In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
(Rev 22:14) Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
Peace to my dear brethren in Christ, the Trees of Life in Paradise :)
