Philippians 3:5,7
5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;
7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
Paul being the pattern for the church has opened up his gut, he has let everyone see what made him tick as a religious man. He lists and talks about everything that made him who he was. There was not a thing Paul mention's that really amounted to a hill of beans, accept to him. Now what Christians should pay close attention to here in this verse is how Paul is being honest. Paul is a very honest man and there is reason he is giving these fine points of his previous life is for us. For the first 35 or so years of Paul's life was spent being deceived. Paul doing what he thought was right, doing what he felt was God service under the law. Now the man opens up and lets the world know and see he was decieved all those years.
The little words "I was wrong" gained Paul more ground into the things of God than anything else he could have done. The hardest place you will ever be in is when you cannot admit your wrong and feel you are always right. It is a disease that plagues humanity and is carried over into Christianity. You can lie to yourself but you cannot lie to your father. He knows what made up mankind from the beginning, he knows the lieing spirit that came to Adam as they disobeyed him in the beginning. Your honesty will always begin with you, in you your honesty begins. We still try to hide under a fig leaf of deception, when in all actuality you are very much free from the old man lieing spirit. So like everything else it is a mind issue that has to be renewed.
You are a new creation, that creation does not lie. If you want to check your walk in Christianity you can start by "am I living honest." If yes then you are expressing the new creation (Christ in you), if no, then you need to dig in and dont allow the old way of living trap you. Why is the old man syndrome so easy to live, because the flesh will always have an affinity for the downward pulls of this life. It is like gravity it will always be there, as long as your alive you will deal with flesh. Everything in the world will pull you, for example; you are on a diet and walk by a refridgerator you will more than likely open it. Any number of hishaps that have caused you to struggle through at times will always be there but you can overcome the world, the flesh, and the devil, by acknowledging Christ as life.
Those will always be adverse to you as you journey through this life as a Christ person.
