WASHINGTON — The House, citing the nation's religious origins, voted Wednesday to protect the Pledge of Allegiance from federal judges who might try to stop schoolchildren and others from reciting it because of the phrase "under God."
I guess I am happy this passed. It seems to me that we're in a sad state of society when it takes a law being passed to keep God in our pledge and keep it away from the courts. Some people may simply dismiss the issue as "oh it's just the pledge" but they don't understand that this is just one goal in the line of many. I saw it stated on a Canadian liberal website the other day (though these guys consider themselves moderates) that religion has no place in public life.
