Israel and the Iranian Threat: A Prophetic Perspective

by: Mike Wingfield Listen to Audio Here

Israel is finally delivering a devastating blow to the nuclear Iranian threat. For decades, Israel has listened to the belligerent calls for their destruction coming from the radical Islamic regime in Iran. During this same time, Iran planted radical terrorist proxy elements along Israel’s northern and southern borders. Hamas and Hezbollah, along with other Islamic groups, were trained and funded by Iran. Their goal was to bring about the annihilation of Israel, and their intentions were made clear during the barbaric Hamas invasion of Israel on October 7, 2023.

In the early hours of June 13, Israel began “Operation Rising Lion.” The Israeli attacks on Iran are ongoing. This operation was meticulously planned by the Israeli intelligence agencies and military leadership. The precision and success of the initial strikes stunned the world.

Israel has declared that this operation will continue until its objectives are achieved. The IDF has already inflicted major damage on Iran’s military infrastructure. Nuclear facilities have been obliterated, military leaders eliminated, nuclear scientists assassinated, and other key installations destroyed. Iran's military was embedded within the civilian population of Tehran, putting millions at risk.

Despite international pressure, Iran refuses to abandon its nuclear ambitions. The destruction of Iran’s nuclear program is shifting the power balance in the Middle East. For years, Shiite Iran has been a threat to the Sunni nations of the Persian Gulf. Iran’s defeat could prompt more Sunni states to join the Abraham Accords and normalize relations with Israel. This move brings the region closer to the prophesied false covenant with the Antichrist.

Iran’s allies—Russia, Turkey, and China—have condemned Israel’s actions. This response aligns with the prophetic coalition described in Ezekiel 38, the Gog and Magog war. The stage is being set. Based on the timeline of end-time events, this invasion may occur just before or after the Rapture of the church.

Jeremiah 49:34–39 offers prophetic insight about Iran, known in ancient times as Elam. God declares that He will “break the bow of Elam,” destroy its leaders, and scatter its people among the nations. These verses describe disaster, defeat, and dispersion—likely a result of nuclear contamination. This would trigger international displacement and set the stage for the Ezekiel 38 invasion, as a remnant of evil joins with Russia and Turkey against Israel. Eventually, a godly remnant from Iran will return to serve the Lord in His Millennial Kingdom (Jeremiah 49:38–39).

Friends, what we are witnessing in this war is forming the very coalition of Ezekiel 38. It is establishing the environment for the rise of the Antichrist and his base of operations in the Middle East.

The fireworks leading to the Tribulation are igniting right before our eyes.

Be ready for the shout that will take us out!

This move brings the region closer to the prophesied false covenant with the Antichrist.
There is no covenant with Antichrist in my opinion. This is, in my view, a mireading of Dan 9.27.

In my view, God's covenant with Israel is confirmed by the sacrifice of Jesus at the hands of the Roman leadership.

I'm not Pretrib, but I do share with Dispensationalism belief that God is going to save Israel. I'm not sure that Israel will even make an agreement with Antichrist--just don't know? But this could, as I see it, be the Gog/Magog prophecy unfolding.

I will have to go back and read the ancient prophecies about Elam/Persia/Iran. Even if they are old, already-fulfilled prophecies, history has a way of repeating itself. Thanks!

All these prophecy experts who do not even know that God's covenant with Israel is, as @Randy Kluth said, confirmed by the sacrifice of Jesus. The only covenant God has with Israel. The New Covenant in His blood.

I suppose the Gog-Magog war that the prophecy experts are always so busy talking about, is a different Gog-Magog war that Ezekiel 38 talks about as coming upon people whom God had brought back from where they had been scattered, AND who for a long time had been dwelling in the land in peace and safety, which Revelation talks about as coming about at the close of the millennium.

I suppose if someone is an Amillennialist he would have to place it at the close of this age.

But as the Rabbis say, "History is prophecy" - meaning that with regard to certain events, there are historical precedents that we Christians call types and antitypes.

What concerns me is that for now Israel's military is mightier than the military of her enemies. But events can make the balance of power shift in favor of Middle Eastern enemy states and Russia / China so suddenly, and so unexpectedly and swiftly. So I hope and believe that the current leaders of Israel and of the USA know that trusting in military strength and in the help of allies is not wise:

"Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!" (Isaiah 31:1).

Our God says that the wrath of the Almighty God is upon those who call evil "good" and good "evil"; who put darkness for light and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! He says that their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood. Destruction and misery are in their ways, and the way of peace have they not known. (They prove that) there is no (real and true) fear of God before their eyes. (Isaiah 5:20 and Romans 3:13-18),

and so many people in the West (even among Christians) are only too eager to join those who hate without real cause and seek to annihilate a certain country (Israel), as though God does not hold those who are complicit equally guilty.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5.

I don't trust in the commentaries of 'prophecy experts' such as in your OP, nor do I trust in the military strength of nations. Nor do I trust in the misplaced trust based on misreading of scripture of those who think they are going to be whisked out of here before the tribulation period which seems to be almost upon us.

This is true so we should wait on the Lord trusting in Him to take care of us and our families

Meanwhile we should remain mindful of the Lord's instructions and warnings:

1 Peter 5:7
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Philippians 4:6
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

John 14:1
Let not your heart be troubled

Romans 14:23
Whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

Psalm 34:19
Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
