I don't know the feeling most people have toward being perfect all the time but I used to feel that I needed to be perfect in my flesh as a Christian. As time went on and I failed time and again I began to realize something. You perfecting your flesh is not what the father was wanting all together. When he had his plan, his plan was not just for you to perfect your flesh. Your flesh is for a purpose and that purpose realized is God's plan.
You know what your flesh will do for you? It will keep you dependent on living life from a different understanding than you were born with. Listen to those words! the knowledge you were born with is not the knowledge you need for life. Human beings need a new knowledge to go with the new Christ in you nature. You cannot use the old mind on the new Christ in you nature (new wine in old skin bags).
The old mind was always trying to keep sin in balance or check if you will. The mind wrestled with the sin nature to keep it from fully expressing itself. Full expression of the sin nature is what Paul calls 'a reprobate mind.' which by the way cannot happen to a Christian. Only unregenerate people can be reprobate doing the nature's bidding with no reserve. That is the mind giving over to the sin nature. You know what God did with Israel? He gave them the law to help the mind keep the sin nature in place, not let it have full reign. That is what the law did thank God.
You know what he did with the church? He gave them a new nature and now the mind does not have to rule over the nature as it once did. It needs a new knowledge to go with the nature but it does not have to rule over nature. As a matter of fact if you do try to rule your nature now you will have to learn not to do that but let the mind become compatible with the new Christ in you nature.
Compatibility is key because it is what allows for true living expression. When we talk about Christ needing our minds to express himself that is the key, compatibility. The two become one, the two are already one but now with the mind the believer understands and union life is spontaneous. How do believers get the mind of Christ; first you have to say by reading and understanding Paul, when you read Paul you are reading the mind of Christ.
Second: the mind of Christ is realized by Christ coming through the mind-soul-expressed-union-oneness-life of the believer. It is Christ alive in you right now and he comes out of you as you are in your creation so let that mind be in you scripture says.
