UK news today:-New laws are being drafted to allow a Catholic to become king or queen, a Cabinet minister said today. It will mean an historic change to the 1701 Act of Settlement which stipulated that the monarch could not even marry a Catholic without forfeiting the throne. Justice Secretary-Jack Straw is "working hard" on the plans, which will not be enacted until after the next election, said fellow Cabinet minister Jim Murphy, the Scottish Secretary. "It's wrong to have a settled constitutional position that discriminates," he told the Herald. "It's not because I'm a Catholic that I feel it. It's unfair, wrong, and does not fit well into a modern sense of what Britain is about." The Act of Settlement states that only Protestant heirs of Sophia, granddaughter of James I, can take the British throne. It specifically bars Catholics, those who marry a Catholic, or those born out of wedlock, from the throne. Amending it would be far from straightforward because the Monarch is also supreme head of the Church of England and a new settlement would trigger a fierce debate over whether the church should be disestablished. Prince Charles has indicated he wants the monarchy to champion people of all religions, adopting the title "defender of faith". Pressure has also come from the growing numbers of Catholics in Britain, and from Jewish and Islamic leaders. Former Home Secretary John Reid has called the law "divisive" and "offensive". My comment:Since Charles doesn't see himself as the defender of the faith, and the Church of England is more Catholic that Protestant it won't make much difference

God will not allow anyone on the throne of David to be king, unless they are a desendant of king David.II Samuel 7:8 - Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel:II Samuel 7:9 - And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.Samuel 7:10 - Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime,II Samuel 7:11 - And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house.II Samuel 7:12 - And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.II Samuel 7:13 - He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.II Samuel 7:14 - I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:II Samuel 7:15 - But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.II Samuel 7:16 - And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever. From this promise spoken by Nathan, we can safely assume these features of the covenant:The last person who's going to take the Throne of David is this...Revelation 22:16 - I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.As he is going to be King of kings and Lord of lords. (Revelation 19:16, Revelation 19:11-16)
