At CERN, there are experiments that collide protons, neutrons, alpha particles which also results in electron collisions.
Articles state that a proton or neutron will decay from a sufficient collision into two up quarks and one down quark or the opposite of two down quarks and an up quark.
In the decay chain those result in eventual positrons and electrons thru rapid decay. Basic matter and antimatter. Which might then eventually collide into gamma radiation. Gamma is a very dangerous type of radiation that almost always results in certain death depending on the number of gamma photons a living cell is exposed to.

A neutron is a composite particle made of an electron and proton. We know that thru free neutron decay and electron capture processes. Those are the two processes that form electron, proton and neutrons.
I often humor at the idea of scientists proclaiming a new particle that exists for less than 1.0e-20 seconds. Only stable particles are actually particles in the first place. I think they see artifacts existing for so brief a time that no one can really be certain of anything in such events.
So the idea of total mass release of a atomic energy weapon or fuel has problems.
One, after all the protons and neutrons collide in the core material of such devices and fracture into quarks, which also collide as electrons and positions as matter antimatter annihilations...
What is left? Not a bunch of electrons? Repelled against the electric field of earth? Well don't think too long atoms are sometimes neutral anyways, but what about every possible isotope of all possible materials?
