Psalm 138:2
"I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name."

A dear friend of mine and I were speaking yesterday and she brought up this passage. We spoke on the meaning and this morning I opened the bible to read it then looked up cross references. I still have a question about the second half of the verse "for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name."

I wonder, how is the word "word" to be taken; His God breathed written word or Jesus being The Word?
Does anyone have any insight to what this means?

The significance of God's word is immeasurable:

The phrase "for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name" in Psalm 138:2 emphasizes the supreme importance and authority of God's word,

He is even suggesting that His revealed promises, commands, and truth are held in the highest regard, even above His own name or reputation.

His word, his divine expression is the ultimate expression of His nature, faithfulness, and covenantal commitment to humanity.
He made everything with his word, it is the core, essence of his divine being, and through it is the ultimate expression of himself, more that his personal name YHWH "I will be that/who I will be" or of a similar and same meaning phrase can contain. John 1:1-3 comes to mind as it speaks to the same word of God.
