'Record-breaking group' of faith leaders endorses Biden

More than 1,600 faith leaders have endorsed Democratic nominee Joe Biden for president as of Friday, including some who could influence evangelical votes, according to a faith voters outreach group.

Vote Common Good, which compiled the endorsements this week, says it is the largest group of clergy to endorse a Democratic candidate for president in modern history.

“This record-breaking group of endorsers shows that President Trump’s lack of kindness and decency is energizing faith communities and will cost him this election,” said Vote Common Good Executive Director Pastor Doug Pagitt.

“Four years ago, many religious voters decided to look the other way and give Trump a chance, but after witnessing his cruelty and corruption, a growing number of them are turning away from the president," he continued.

The group of endorsements includes prominent evangelical leader Billy Graham’s granddaughter, Jerushah Duford.

Duford, who has name recognition as the granddaughter of the man who globalized the evangelical movement and preached to millions, is part of a group calling themselves Pro-life Evangelicals for Biden that launched last week, according to The Washington Post.

“There are so many evangelicals who are one-issue voters and abortion is their issue. It is an issue that singlehandedly prevents them from voting for Biden,” Duford told the Post. “I want to validate that struggle that people are having who care about pro-life issues.”

Duford has previously criticized evangelical support for President Trump, writing in an op-ed for USA Today that she felt "homeless" in the modern church.

She is also a member of the Lincoln Women, part of the anti-Trump group Lincoln Project.

Other members of the Pro-life Evangelicals for Biden group include John Huffman, former board chairman of Christianity Today magazine, who the Post said plans to vote for a Democratic candidate for the first time this year.

Yeah with that logic I see why someone might not vote for either ;) Not voting for Trump because he's immoral with women. Not voting for Biden because he supports abortion immorality and a more socialist governing authority.

Well if New Zealand survived 4 years of Jacinda, I am sure USA can survive 4 years of Biden and Kamala. At the moment the USA, needs someone who can take a global pandemic more seriously and mass shootings more seriously and someone who won't further divide a nation.

I'm a registered Independent and I'm not a one-issue voter. I voted Third Party in the last presidential election, but I'm not sure if I'll vote Third Party again on November 3rd or not. I may decide to vote for Biden because I strongly believe that Trump should be removed from office.

I think these endorsements for Joe Biden from more than 1,600 faith leaders (including the endorsements from 850 other faith leaders) really speaks volumes about the political ground Donald Trump is losing among the religious in America, Christian and non-Christian alike. I'm honestly relieved to see more Evangelical Conservatives turning against Trump. It gives me hope that the Republican Party might survive Trumpism.

Well, I'm technically on your side with 3rd parties. I just gave into the two choices because I want my vote to count in swaying who will actually occupy the office. But I can think of better candidates than the two in the debates.

I do get concerned about Trump having nuclear power and military authority. First thing he did in office was create a missile attack that provoked Russia (a nuclear power). And he gets easily provoked which is evident from the twitter rampages.

I won't say who I will vote for, I'm a fan of taking care of the sick and poor (which includes disabled people). Trump restricted food benefits for the poor to only include disabled. Which I didn't like. But I do like the way he stands up for our law and order.

To be honest I'm not much of a fan of either candidate.

Are these "faith leaders" Christians endorsing a candidate who thinks it should be legal for babies in the womb to be killed up until the time they are born???

This is shameful! I literally pray that they will repent!

I think this is true, and it was predicted. The thing is, despite Trump's actions which have increasingly been making Christians distance themselves from him, it's actually not in the church's best interest for Trump to lose. Not to hijack your thread, but we received a second dream this afternoon that confirmed this. Bad things are coming to the church if Trump gets the hook, and I think that's about to be what happens.

The FACT is that they are endorsing a candidate who said he will work to codify Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in the U.S. So their open support could ensure that this happens.

Biden calls for enshrining Roe v. Wade in federal law (Politico)

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Former Vice President Joe Biden said Saturday that he would work to enshrine into federal law the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision upholding abortion rights, as the Democratic presidential frontrunner seeks to mollify critics of his record on reproductive issues.

Biden, speaking at a Planned Parenthood forum two weeks after reversing his opposition to federal funding for most abortions — an early flashpoint in the 2020 presidential campaign — said he would support codifying Roe as defined by a later decision that affirmed the landmark case's central principles.

Personally speaking as a Christian and as an Independent voter, I don't believe the Christian Church or any other religious organization should be given preferred treatment from the government. I think the government should be neutral and not promote one specific religion over all the other religions in America. And lastly, I don't think the President should pander to religious conservatives in order to secure their loyalty and support.

I fully agree here. Only in this case, the dreams suggest it is not about one religion receiving preferential treatment over others, but of the threat of one religion in particular (Christianity) becoming the target of malicious intent by the government. The one good thing, however, is that it will separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak. Those Christians who cannot take adverse circumstances coming their way will bow out, whereas those Christians who are prepared to face opposition will become even stronger.
