1. The true mode of serving God is characterized as the “old paths”; it is further described as “the good way.”
2. The Hebrews were under obligation to “walk” in these paths.
3. They had, however, strayed from the noble way.
4. It was imperative that they repent and hasten back to the Lord.
5. If they would return, “rest” could be their possession again.

Jeremiah 6:16
This is what the Lord says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’

God spoke this verse to me when I wanted to be baptised and I couldn't be at the traditional church I belonged to. I changed my path and took the one that enabled me to honour God by obeying his call to be baptised.

I really don't know what is meant by the old ways. But I know Jesus taught a way that was to help the needy, sick, naked, thirsty, hungry, etc. And in the church established by him they had no poor among them. Thru out the bible it is different and sometimes similar. Isaiah talks about his fast, where he gives his food to the hungry and takes care of the poor and needy.

I should add that the old ways are probably also honoring the God of Israel and obeying the commandments also. I left that out in thinking of the way taught in Isaiah and Matthew.
