God’s Purpose includes our purpose. For us who love Him, our purpose is God’s purpose. God doesn’t verbalize to us what our purpose should be. We can only find that out in our love for Him. It requires that we look amongst the earth to see what God has called upon us to do. The answer will appear in our hearts, since that is where God communicates with us. Our hearts will not determine what He has to say unless we love Him. The more we love Him, the clearer the Message appears.

Our love of God includes our faith and trust in Him, and our undivided loyalty. We can have faith and trust in Him through our works, but we need to have faith and trust in Him to begin with. James 2:18 alludes to our demonstrating our faith in God by our works. God already knows the works we’ve done and the works we will do; the demonstrating of our faith in Him is for the benefit of mortals like us. And our love for Him is how we sow, and show, our faith and trust in Him. We should always remember that, as stated in Exodus 20:5 that God is a jealous God, hence His Commandment of not having other gods before Him.

Other gods may not appear before you as such; instead they come in the form of how other people act. If other people are dedicated to promoting evil, for example, they are working on behalf of other gods. And other gods love the publicity and don’t care of the consequences to you if you are divinely compromised by following them. Some of those other gods may gaslight you into believing you are doing good, but the mere fact of you following them means you’re committing evil to the extent of breaking the First commandment. 1 John 4:1 says to test the spirits to see if they are from God. If they are not, then give them an ‘F’ and be on your way.

What does Romans 8:28-30 say? It says “[28] And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. [29] For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. [30] And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.” The things you encounter in your daily life will not yield a good fruit unless you love God and are called according to His Purpose. Your love of Him opens the door, and your answering His Call brings all things to work together for you.

Some may bring up the fact of many of Jesus’ 12 disciples met premature death. James, Bartolemew, Matthias were beheaded. Others were crucified or stoned to death. And Paul, who was a Pharisee who promoted Jesus, was beheaded as well. Some may wonder, ‘Where is the good in that?’ Well, the NT places heavy emphasis on the afterlife, so we who believe in God through Jesus accept that God’s Kingdom exists, so those who were righteous like Jesus’ disciples are probably spending their afterlife in Paradise.
Some reckonings that are more down-to-earth may include those who had a bad experience, but who end up in better shape because of the people they met from that experience, since they may have discovered their calling through the fate of that experience. Some reckonings may involve those who had a good experience and those whose experience was neither good nor bad.

Some reckonings may involve a eureka moment where to pass the time, say, you pick up a pen and start writing a story and you discover you may be cut out for this enough to spend the time writing more stories, or a novel, that bear fruit. Or you may spend time on this chat board and realize you and the Bible are on the same wavelength. The key thing is to love the one true God who created the heavens and earth as described in the first few works of Genesis and be alert to the good things you can do for others and for yourself.

I like the point that our love for God shapes how clearly we hear Him, newton3005. For me it's been slow. Years ago I kept wanting a big sign, and what actually changed things was just showing up consistently and looking back later to see how things had lined up. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28) Curious what moment made that verse real for you.

This verse has carried so many believers through seasons that made no sense at the time. God never promises that every detail will feel good, but He does promise that He is at work in all of it for those who love Him. Hold on to that steady hope today.
