Being made in God's image.....what is this?
I ask, of all of God's creation how much or what is made in His Image? and what does that mean?
We also read that Jesus is the image of the invisible God....a statement to ponder on.
Is our worth (the human) of such great value to our Creator for the invisible God to manifest as flesh and bone?.....and for the purpose of?
Perhaps we have heard the story so often its overwhelming weightiness eludes us.....we relegate it to one of the many stories about gods becoming men; we invent rituals and clothing and attitudes which fundamentally convey the message that certain individuals have a connection with divinity out of reach of most.
I would propose that the news put forward in the writings of scripture tell us that God has elevated us to unprecedented Royalty.....and he has done this because there is something so valuable in the human creation of being in his image he could not bear to dismiss it.
An aside....
From a human standpoint, the education which the children of rulers get is over and above the average citizen. They have many privileges and direction to prepare them for later opportunities and circumstances...... to be of wise service to their constituents.
If they choose not to enhance these privileges or they exploit them for self, oppression on some level followers for those ruled.
God's call is not only one of being called back to fellowship with him but also that of a reminder of the status we have as our birthright.....as children of the Father.....purchased with a price incomparable.....as heirs of a future we can very faintly grasp. We are not to feed from the trough which pigs feed from or copy the behaviour of pigs. We are to come to our senses. Senses that recognise who we are....Princes and Princesses of Royalty.....reinstated ....Sons and daughters who have a Royal robe given them of finest linen; a ring on their finger and shoes on their feet....given us by the life of one in incognito.
We are encouraged in further training (sanctification) and we are not to resist it as recalcitrant children but understand what we are being trained for ie, Royalty beyond our wildest current imaginings.
We can however, abdicate. We can put a spin on God's promises and vision for us which leave us feeding from the pig trough.....we can crucify our rescuer anew and cast the precious pearl into the mire. We have the freedom to believe the lie.
