That's the vinegar! Yes it helps the stomach. (as red wine does) I was brought "up old school Italian" and in Italy, the salad is last after the meal- not first course creamy dressings like Americans do.
Italians dress salads with olive oil and vinegar and serve last- The reason is the vinegar is a digestive aid. It even helps with reflux- apple cider vinegar a little water and you can add a bit of honey.- you can also add cayenne.

Your experience here sounds awful. I'm glad you're doing better. It has been a very hot humid summer here, as well. Looking forward to fall. You'll be in my prayers, TLHKAJ.
Thank you for sharing and also for praying.
I was diagnosed with hiatal hernia and ulcers at age 14. It contributed to awful reflux. I had an EGD and colonoscopy in 2009 at age 37 after an assault. I was told I had severe inflammation of my stomach lining. They prescribed the standard meds that may help symptoms, but increases your chance of stomach and esophageal c.ncer. NO, thank you! I stopped Dr Peppers and Barq's rootbeer, and went to only water and organic milk. And I began drinking ACV and aloe vera juice, lemon juice (in water) ...things like that. And the reflux decreased significantly, and then went away.

Pleased to hear that xxxxxx
What about the heat, is it still really hot ?
We had temps in the high 90's to 100° for about 3 weeks with index between 115° to 120° and high humidity over 65% ...often in the 80°+ range ...and no rain to speak of outside of a pop-up 20 minute shower now and then.

After I basically collapsed, we had a couple more days like that, and then temps dropped into the low to mid 80's. Now, it has moved up to the low 90's and supposed to have a few more days in the high 90's before another small drop to around 90°. I've been watching the weather forecasts diligently now bc I really want to get back to taking care of my animals and doing normal things. I'm a little stronger today, but still have to be careful that I don't fall. That has happened a few times. Nothing horrible ...just feel like I'm moving slowly and I get a little "swimmy" in the head. Today, I feel definite improvement.

I ate a regular meal of 3 scrambled eggs and about 8ozs of skirt steak....just got done eating this meal with pickles, pickled garlic, and pickle juice before, during, and after meal ....no nausea!!

I also have been taking potassium, benfotamine (b1), D3+K2, cayenne, Curcumin, hawthorne, and Anti-V. I take those if nausea is down and I get to eat. I didn't mention, the stress of heat stroke has triggered a shingles flare ....which is helped by a supplement called Anti-V. I don't even notice the shingles much. Heat stroke pain is much worse. Some other things are going on as well ....health and otherwise.

I am a little out of it, feeling a little chill as the pain is back down to about a level 3 or 4. Sometimes I feel like a child just wanting to take a break, and play....so excuse me if I don't sound quite myself at times.

Sure thing! I feel your pain as I have had haital hernia since a time of major stress in my 20's. It didn't really bother me until I got older.
I've found that eating less always helps- don't eat til feeling full. Beware of certain foods- I think it varies which foods to be mindful of for different people. Don't eat late at night. You know the drill. Vinegar definitely helps me. I do take pepcid when it gets out of control. I don't like to but I need to. I also need to be sure I get enough fiber= veggies n fruits.
Be careful about "organic" milk in the stores as it is almost always "ultra pasteurized" It's worse than milk that isn't organic but is pasteurized but not "ultra". The enzymes naturally in raw milk are needed to digest it properly but are destroyed by heat of pasteurizing. That's the kicker.
Milk doesn't need to be pasteurized at all UNLESS it is left out in the heat. It needs to be kept cold. We began pasteurizing milk due to careless dairy farmers allowing it to sit without chilling it.
I'm fortunate to live near dairy farmers who are organic and raw. All of the enzymes needed to digest the dairy are still intact. Kefir is very healing too but beware of it if not raw. If you have dairy farmers nearby see what they offer.

Lemon juice to your water-and sip throughout the day is very good!! I drink it as well. The acid in the lemon works much like vinegar- Adding acid tells the body that there is enough acid already so you produce less. I used to take aloe caps but found I didn't need them.
Another thing I find helpful is a digestive enzyme after meals.
An awful lot of people of all ages have reflux or other digestive ailments now. I attribute to GMO's in foods. Animals don't do well with gmo feed and we sure don't either. It's hard to believe how everything processed sold is full of canola or soy, corn etc oils- they are all GMO. They are very inflammatory to the gut. I buy my meats thru a farmer too. For eggs- I have my own chickens.

It could be the mental stress of the heat stroke flaired up your gut even more. If you are like me- stress goes right to the gut.
Be well my friend. I'm sorry this happened to you. Come on fall!

Yes, if I but the pasteurized milk, it upsets my gut.

I used be get raw milk locally, but that got shut down somehow. Now, I can get raw milk cheese and raw kefir (labeled "not sold for human consumption") ... and I usually get low-temp pasteurized, organic milk from my local health food store. It's so low-temp that it still has the cream on the top. And it lasts 3 times as long as ultra pasteurized milk. But I am recently able to get local raw milk from a local farm. Also, I can get A2/A2 whole milk organic kefir ...but it's not raw. A2/A2 is the best on the stomach. I need to learn to make my own out of the raw milk.

We do have a local Homestead Market where I can locally raise grass fed beed and poultry. ❤️ If I don't get it there (they're only open one day a week and have lots of customers) ...I do a "next best" thing. I will go to Aldi and buy as much grass fed as possible.

I also raise my own eggs as well. I have about a bajillion chickens (give or take). lol
I have only 13 hens laying atm. But I have about 50 that will be laying in the next 2 wks to 2 months. I have half a bajillion roos that I am trying to sell cheap! lol

I have a neighbor who wants one as soon as I am well enough to go home. His name is Davy after his daddy.... David. lol

The first poc is David. The last 2 are his offspring, Davy. I like him, but I can't keep him or I'll need to create a new flock around him and a new coop. I already have 7 coops and 2 runs for grow-outs. So I'm glad someone local wants him. David has been a good even tempered rooster. He is Jersey Giant and Wyandotte cross. His sons are very similar to him. (I can talk chickens for hours. lol)

For 24/7 consultation.
Thank you, @Hepzibah. This would be a good one to add to my stash!

I love books like this. One day soon, we may not have access to internet or even a library. So I have lots of books. I like books about bushcraft, survival, chickens, goats, and other livestock, old time natural remedies, herbal medicine, foraging, gardening. (Although I am carnivore, I know we will need ways to get nutrients in and also ways to grow forage for chickens, ducks, wildlife, goats, cattle, etc.)

I have some homeschool books.... all sorts of books along these lines.

I also have homebirthing/midwifery books. I had 4 home births. Three of them, my midwife didn't make it in time (but shortly after). I had short labors and deliveries for all my home births... 1hr to 3.5hrs. I have books for natural birthing and midwifery study books.

Praying you feel better @TLHKAJ

A cold shower before bed usually helped me and Encyclopedia of Country Living helped me out with one good tip- get all your hardest tasks done early in the morning before an afternoon nap when the heat is at its worst, and then back to chores later in the evening when the sun goes back down again. Now I kind of stick to it.

Great- Aldi & others can be tricky. grass fed sounds good except alfalfa which is the grass usually grown to feed them is now ..GMO grass seed. The gmo giants are very methodical. So it needs to be grass fed and organic to be safe. Although, even that can be from feed lots. Pastured is always healthiest. It shouldn't be this trick if you want to just eat healthy should it?!! ]
It's the greed..
Years ago, I thought gluten free might help me, but I got worse--- after I while I realized that gluten free products were none other than their gmo corn. So i tossed that. I finally ended up using eikhorn wheat which is an ancient wheat that hasn't been glutenized like our wheat is or touched at all. Many are now growing it too. It has a great flavor.
All in all, I feel my best when limiting carbs and eating proteins, vegs and fruits. It's really a strange thing. I just can't stay there very long without going for a pasta night. I guess it's in my blood. I also found lunches to be hard. I used to have canned fish but found myself wanting crackers or bread with fish. I also don't seem to want a burger without a bun. I did ok having meatballs without pasta, but I did add a little bread to the meatballs. Can't seem to get away totally..

I also raise my own eggs as well. I have about a bajillion chickens (give or take). lol

LOL! :joyful: That's a lot of birds! I know a lot of people who love their birds! I have not gotten attached lol I'm more of a dog lover.
Maybe consider swapping some layers for meat birds? They're ready in 6 mos. I only did that one time a few yrs ago, but it's worth it now considering the prices for pastured chicken went silly high. -over 20 bucks for one breast. I only have 9 layers- I give plenty of eggs away. Everyone should have chickens imo!

That is ideal and it's what I will be able to implement at some future date. My current (safety related) circumstance doesn't make that doable. :/ But I do try to cut animal and yard chores in half ....usually 10am and 7pm. Not ideal, but better than nothing. It would be fine if not for the abnormally high heat and humidity.

What I may do is fill a bucket with icy water and cold tea towels ...get a sun hat and drape a cold wet towel down from under my hat ....and wear a neck fan. lol
Soon as the towel isn't cool anymore, I can change it out from another one out of the bucket (or a cooler, even).

So I just thought that out again, and what I could do is put ice cubes and water into a cooler... put a few bottles of icy water in there, and 5 tea towels. I just bought some organic cotton tea towels at my local health food store a couple of weeks ago.

So even if it's 90° already, I can take it easy and still mitigate the intensity ...go inside for a bit and cool off if I have to. Come outside and shower myself from the waterhose ....which I do anyways.

Just pondering....

Hows about some zucchini noodles? Even yellow squash ...can be tasty made into a layered casserole ....meat+sauce, veggie noodles, shredded cheese ....do that over and over and bake to meld the layers. lol
Maybe have some avocado slicws with it ....

There is something called "cloud bread" that tastes amazingly like regular bread, but is mostly egg whites and cream cheese, seasonings, and heavy cream, I think.

I agree and have even said that to probably 50 people in the last 6 months. lol

And yes, I do name my chickens. lol
And spending time withy chickens is very therapeutic for me. I have a coop with about 35 juvenile pullets and cockerels. I keep a chair hanging high up in there and on good days, I go sit with them, talk to them, lol ...often with feed in a scoop. Most of them will come around my feet, and about a dozen or more of them will jump up and down from my lap, eat from my hand or the bucket. A couple of them will fly up and sit on my shoulder and chatter away. lol

I'm not ready to think about processing any of them. But sometime in the future, I may consider giving them a few years of a good life and hatching some of their eggs to replenish the flocks once I process them. It would be extremely hard for me. But if I'm looking at my family and especially my grandbabies needing food (which may happen sometime soon) ...I'll get over that hurdle.

I know there is cornish cross, but I want to breed my own dual purpose flock. With Jersey Giant in my mix, I should be able to do that. IMG_20250708_131443626~2.jpgIMG_20250708_131728783~2.jpg

I do like spaghetti squash! Zucchini is another big GMO crop. They are easy to grow though. The trouble is they don't store well.- over the winter and can't be frozen well, but spaghetti squash works!
I have tried a lot of grain free breads- all the cream cheese is a bit much for me. I made no grain pizza that was amazing once with cream cheese.. I'm ok with limited amount of homemade Eikhorn bread. It doesn't bother me ,and Jesus ate bread, so I think it's just what science did to our grains that causes the problems.
Thanks for the squash reminder. :gd God willing I'll grow zucchini next year for summer noodles.

You sound like a friend of mine. I call her bird lady. I have always had to trains my dogs to stay away from the chickens, so i never had time for much friendliness. I do thank them for their eggs! lfh

Oh... I didn't mean to process your layers.. I know you can't do that.
Meat birds are a different type of chicken. You can just get them young.. let them pasture and supplement feed them for 6 mos.
You just don't get attached to them knowing what they are for.- the roasting pot

edit-- oh I see you have a Jersey giant- great start!!

Phew!! lol
I get people all the time who say I need to process them. Or even process the roosters that I can't find buyers for quick enough. I can see the logic. If they don't sell, I've put enough fees into them to just process them after they mature. But it's so hard for me still, especially that these are ones I've spent a lot of time getting to know. lol
