Simple Question, yet no Simple Answer One of my close friends asked me this last night, well reply! And give me any input!God purposely made a rock so heavy he himself could not lift it,But he being GOD could he still lift it?Simple Question,Yet no Simple Answer
Humans lack God's power. Jesus was fully human. He set aside his Godness to become like us. That is how he could feel pain, the weight of the task and suffer death. He was not super human. In order to do his miracles, Jesus had to rely of God the Father to supply the power. The power came from the Holy Spirit.Mark 1: 21 says that the Holy Spirit drove Jesus out into the desert. It is hard to get your head around the idea of Jesus being driven, but he was. He said in Luke 4: 18 - 19 that "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor." Jesus was a man anointed by God. He was God, but he had to set that aside in order to fulfill what the Father desired.John 5: 19 makes Jesus' humanity clear. "Jesus gave them this answer: 'I tell you the truth, t
he Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.'"In setting aside his divinity, he became mortal. He could bleed and feel just as we do. So it is not only possible but assured that there were rocks that he could not lift. When Jesus resurrected and ascended into Heaven he was once again God. There is nothing that he can't do as God, as long as it is the will of the Father and consistent with his character. In overcoming death he has nothing left to prove. Everything that he said came true or will come true.In his absence, the Holy Spirit is present in us and through us he does the work of God the Father and God the Son. Jesus is at the right hand of the Father now, but will return and I suspect that he will not be lifting rocks. He will remake the whole planet.About lifting rocks Jesus said that if we had faith the size of a mustard seed that we could not just move rocks but mountains. This is no idle boast. Jesus promised that we could do what he did and more. If lifting heavy rocks is your thing then this should blow your mind:
John 14: 12I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
