While slavery was never approved by God, there was bond servant stories as well in the old testament.
The captivity of Israel in Egypt, Babylon and other stories. Those were enslavement, captivity and such.
The bond servant stories are those who agreed to be put into a contract for payment and freed from the contract after a certain term, like 5 years. After the 5 year work term, they received payment. Conditions might have been harsh back then.
Today companies and corporations take a contract, have money already built up to pay their employees. After the work contract between companies, the work company is paid. The employee is always paid after the work in that type. They usually are paid per month, every two weeks, or per week.
Some types of work and their business are paid up front depending on needs and risk.
The history of the USA came from slavery of people brought here with the Brittish, Spanish, and other settlers. A slavery practice that was always condemned by God due to the attrocities always committed in slavery governments.

We are called to repent, and declare to others to not procrastinate the day of their repentance.
