"In the song, Michael Stipe sings the lines "That's me in the corner/That's me in the spotlight/Losing my religion". The phrase "losing my religion" is an expression from the southern region of the United States that means losing one's temper or civility, or "being at the end of one's rope." Stipe told The New York Times the song was about romantic expression.[6] He told Q that "Losing My Religion" is about "someone who pines for someone else. It's unrequited love, what have you."

This is true. "Losing my religion" is a ubiquitous phrase I've heard applied in a variety of contexts.

That is official story. Of course there is going to be a cover story.

If you watch the video it looks rather odd comparing to that cover story. Wounded angel falling from a sky and tormented by people after some event that shook the earth. Some kind of dark angel in the middle the whole time, reference to martyred Saint Sebastian, some figures looking like Indian gods, making some kind of mechanical flying thing…

Satan worshipers are very big on symbolism and there is a lot of it in the video that has nothing to do with official cover story.
