yeah, it is kind of a Catholic thing, but it is catching on in Protestant circles. I have a spiritual director who helps me stay within the lines of orthodoxy....I have been known to wander off at times. She is also very helpful in my prayer life. I tend to drift into quietism if I am left to my own direction - she has given me good advice in the form of scaffolding - for example; Christian contemplation is not drifting off into the abyss - it is active listening and surrender to the Holy Spirit who speaks for us.
Anyone here have a spiritual director? What is your experience like?
