What Scripture calls 'strong delusion' is something that happens after someone dies, not while they are alive. Moreover, strong delusion is reserved only for the unredeemed. Specifically, strong delusion is what a person experiences in Hell and it is unique to that individual. In other words, everyone will experience something different, according to what God chooses for them.

Let's review the verses:

2 Thessalonians 2:8 - "And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:"

The context is the Man of Sin being revealed. The Lord comes to destroy him. This sounds like end times.

2 Thessalonians 2:9 - "Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,"

Again, the Man of Sin is revealed. Note that the strong delusion has not happened yet.

2 Thessalonians 2:10 - "And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved."

Now the context shifts into the afterlife. 'Them that perish' is an obvious reference to those that are dead. They are past being saved.

2 Thessalonians 2:11 - "And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:"

And here we have the famous verse. Now that the unredeemed are dead, God will then send them strong delusion, in the afterlife. In other words, strong delusion is when one experiences the torments of Hell.

2 Thessalonians 2:12 "That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness."

Again, we see that Scripture is redundantly reinforcing the fact that the strong delusion happens to the damned in the afterlife.

So the big question is... what exactly is this 'strong delusion'. For the answer, we turn to the Old Testament:

Isaiah 66:4 - "I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not."

Not only is the strong delusion something that God chooses, it is also what a person fears the most put on them. This is a terrifying thought! Imagine your worst fears coming true. That is what the strong delusion is. That is what people will experience in Hell according to the Word of God.

When does strong delusion happen? After the End Times:

Isaiah 66:15-16 "For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many."

Look:

Isaiah 66:18 "For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory."

See? Strong delusion happens after the Lord returns.

Look:

Isaiah 66:22 "For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain."

In summary, the strong delusion happens after the Man of Sin is revealed and after the Lord returns and after the unsaved are all dead.

Now you finally know. You're welcome. :csm

The Rich Man's biggest fear was that he would no longer be able to live in a comfortable environment or eat and drink sumptuously:

Luke 16:19 English Standard Version - "There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day."

So, God put his worst fears upon him:

Luke 16:24 "And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame."

Again, not everyone will experience the same thing.

In them that are saved and in them that perish are also mentioned here

2 Cr 2:15 For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
2 Cr 2:16 To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

These are both alive, even as the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness in contrast to them that are save here as well.

1 Cr 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

And just in them that perish again mentioned here

2 Thes 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2 Thes 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2 Thes 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

This spirit here reminds me of that "him" coming in 2 Thes 2:9

1 Kings 22:20 -23 And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.

And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him.

And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith?

And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.

And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.

Then the LORD says,

Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.

Which does remind me a little of "the working" of him here

2 Thes 2:9 [Even him]/singular whose coming is after the "working of" Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them (plurally) that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie

And in the former God sends a lying spirit which deceives while in the latter God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.

It does say here,

Job 12:16 With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his.

Backing up to Kings again where it says,

Kings 22:23 Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.

And going up a few books to Ezek it says also

Ezek 14:9 And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

Regarding 2 Thess 2:8, does the world know who the wicked are yet? No, but they will when the Word of the Father, the spiritual Sword of His mouth, settles things by virtue of His magnificent return.

The strong delusion is the willful resistance to truth. What else could it be? The world recoils at His voice, condemned by His very existence. You must be delusional to find desirability in what is false. It is such a pittance of pleasure compared to the unimaginable wealth the elect wait to inherit.

As far as that fears bit, the Father is only perfection, there is no violence in Him. What comes upon the sinful is the natural result of choosing anything other than His majesty. There is only one Way, one Truth, and one Life.

The delusion is present, but no more real than this world. We occupy a shadow of true reality.

Also, if they have not a love of the truth in them, what would such be left with but a lie

Shows also those who love and make a lie here also

Rev 22:15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

Even as it says,

Psalm 40:4 Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

Although that could also be speaking of this

Isaiah 44:20 He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

Which in context is idolatry there as far as an idol of wood goes, but wood is also mentioned earlier in Rev as well.

Rev 9:20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: (Since Paul pointed out much the same to them already the same in Acts 17:29) to repent of those very things.

The strong delusion is the willful resistance to truth. What else could it be?

It's defined here:

Isaiah 66:4 - I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not.

I get the feeling that folks here are offended by the above verse.

Now aint this true reminder something to ponder on my friend .
Cause i see a whole ton of false prophets today at work
to persuade the entire realm of christendom
to merge as one under that which is of anti christ , Yet they beleive its of GOD and it will
usher upon them WORLD PEACE N SAFETY . only it wont . SUDDEN DESTRUCTION shall come upon them all .
Talk about an identical example of today . What a wonderful reminder YOU BROUGHT for us all to see
and to ponder on indeed .

Oh, no offense to me can come from Scripture. A definition brings clarity, that's what I'm after. The passage suggests a vengeance is involved and I can't say I understand it, but it speaks of the nature of delusion without bringing clarity. But of course, delusion only persists in obscurity or opacity, because clarity remedies it.

Delusion is the opposite of clarity, as falsehood is opposite truth, as evil is the opposite of good. The very root of the word is "false belief." Since all belief is either true or false, believing what is false is automatically delusion.

speaking of a strong delusion .
What if i told you that even many now who lip the name of JESUS
are following a false love that never came of GOD at all .
A false unity
a false idea that they beleive is love and is of GOD
when in fact OH NO IT AINT .
What would you do if i told you that it is not only highly possible
for an agent of satan to wear wool and preach partial truths that lead only to lies and to a lie
BUT THAT IS MASSIVE NOW all over the christain realm .
WHAT If i told you
that they now merge more and more to be as one
WITH THE FALSE RELGIONS
and the false religoins as well as more and more in christendom
NOW BELEIVE they are serving the same GOD and its HIS LOVE , HIS PLAN for peace n safety .
BUT really its just a delusion
to merge the decieved within christendom with the false relgioins to bring THIS UPON THEM ALL
SUDDEN DESTRUCTION from on HIGH and FROM ABOVE by THE VERY GOD AND HIS CHRIST
their interreligious finding common ground hogwashed lie , DENIED . we are being DECIEVED right now
and many are co workers in this web of deciet . THEY beleive as do a child
that this is THE GOD , THE WAY , THE TRUTH and THE LOVE OF GOD , but it is of the devil leading them all as one
to the day of perdition . OH yeah there is such a thing as a strong delusion .
AND MANY see it as A GREAT AWAKENING , A NEW revelation from WHO THEY THINK is GOD
but its all the working of that which is of anti christ .
