The reason why? The Saints err and have turned away from God. God is waiting for the people who identify with Him to humble themselves and to repent so that He, God, can heal the land.
Jeremiah 50-51 provides a very good picture of what has been going on since the Israelite have been seek God's face.
The Seventh bowl Judgement also figures during this same time period, where WW1 and WW2 are described as earthquakes/turmoils and the consequences that has flowed from the fulfilment of this judgement.
The completion of the prescribed time of the Gentiles trampling God's sanctuary and His earthly hosts is rapidly drawing towards when the Gentile Kings of the earth will be gathered at Armageddon to be judged and the heavenly hosts will be judged in heaven and collectively, they will be imprisoned in a pit for many days to await the time of their punishment. Daniel 8, Isaiah 24:21-22, Rev 16:12-16 all point to this time of upheaval upon the earth. This present descendant generation have seen the three frog like spirits going out to do signs and wonders that were seen around the world as they unfolded, with the purpose of drawing the kings of the earth to gather at Armageddon.
When the overseers of God's flock begin to reveal their sins and the sins of the flock and call them to repentance, then God will hear from heaven and heal the land. But before that will happen the quagmire that the flock is sinking into must become clearly apparent to the overseers and the flock before they will respond. The book of Judges tells this reality.
