At first I thought the story represented that many do not want Christ in their lives....as the woman didn't want the mouse. But the mouse still gave a gift to her....such as Christ gave to us. And eventually the woman recognized the mouse and his gift and let him abide with her in her house.

However, just now I thought the following might also be true of the story:

"Whatever you have done to the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto Me." Matthew 25:40

As you can see, at the very end the mouse is wearing a tiny crown and the nativity scene's cradle is empty. Thus the mouse is symbolizing Christ in the least of us...and how we treat the least of us.

Just some thoughts...do you have any on the meaning of the story?
