The reason that the First resurrection is called the first resurrection is because it happens FIRST in the sceme of things.

Revelation 20:4And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
5But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

The significance of these two resurrections is that the Millennial rule of Christ occurs between them. In other words, the millennial rule starts with the First resurrection and ends with the Second resurrection.

Christ's millennial rule can best be explained as the time in which Satan is bound and Christ rules the nation (with a rod of iron) from Jerusalem.

Christ told us of these two resurrections.

John 5:28Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
29And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

That's all there is, folks.

Yet, Jesus was first before the first as the "firstfruits" of them that slept! And 1 Thes 4:17 & 18, the rapture, will be the secondfruits of these that slept, second before the "first" resurrection that comes on the last day. Perhaps John meant, not first in sequence, but first in importance.
