The Gospel is Spiritual not Intellectual

On forums like this I see so much intellectualizing over scripture to the point where people even attempt to interpret scripture for themselves. And so many intellectual arguments ensue. But the Gospel has never been intellectual. It has always come down to feelings and the heart of the matter, loving God and others.

Fruits of the Holy Spirit:

Galatians 5:22-25

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,


23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.


24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.


25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

We could definitely use more Godly love in the way we address each other, whether we agree with their doctrine or consider them our enemies or not.

Im praying toward this end. You're definitely on to something.

Right. Also I think God is almighty and all intelligent. So for him it has an intellectual aspect. But he clearly uses the heart of the matter in love for his children.

Of course people interpret scripture for themselves. That is why we own and read Bibles. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact that is what God intended! We read the Bible and the Holy Spirit leads us into all truth.

By contrast, you have the Roman Catholic denomination, with all its theatrics. People are led into believing that the Catholic clergy is the embodiment of truth and wisdom, so they shouldn't think for temselves. To me that is spiritual slavery: Do as you're told!

b) Part of translation is interpreting the meaning of the source documents. There are significant differences in vocabulary, verb tenses, idioms, punctuation, etc., so a word-for-word, "literal" (quotes intentional) translation is impossible.

Saying that the NKJ version is "the most accurate interpretation" is nothing more than your opinion. It may be the translation that you prefer, but that doesn't amount to anything more than your translation choice.

Not really important to this thread. As it is related to not over intellectualizing and staying with the heart of the matter to follow God. You know the two great commandments, Love God and love your neighbor.

Jesus really got down to the heart of the matter when he said, those that show love for their neighbor show love for Jesus, and those that don't show love for their brothers and sisters get cast into the lake of fire in the sheep and goats: Matthew 25:31-46.

I would suspect that was also the biggest failure of the Jews that warred against Jesus. Sticking to the letter of the law instead of the heart of the matter. Healing on the Sabbath, and the many stories from the new testament show the heart of the matter. Eating corn on the Sabbath, eating with the despised sinners and healing them, etc: Matthew 12:1 ,Luke 13:10-17, etc.

But for your reference, I have seen people rationalize away basic understanding of scripture that most people accept due to interpreting it in strange ways.

When we assume the worst about each other and let ourselves descend into endless personal attacks and bickering, I believe it sends the world the wrong message about Christ.

There's a limit to what I can do to make this forum a better place as an individual. But I want to speak up for peace when it seems right. We have great people here. I think we just need to be reminded at times.

I think since the gospel is so much into the heart of the matter that children can understand it. In my church growing up the children were taught to share and while sharing taught that Jesus wants us to share. The children are also told that Jesus loves them, that he loves them so much that he died for us and made an atonement that we can go to heaven and be happy in a heavenly family.

Those kinds of things I just love.

And of course there is much adult doctrine to it also. Making good choices in life and such. But the children being taught just warms my heart.
