The person of the Holy Spirit is the Third person of the Godhead, the Spirit of Fire and the holy dove! As believers we have been saved by the grace of God through our faith in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. Yet in living this Christian life we struggle with our human and sinful nature. We are desperately wicked and there is nothing good that lies with in our flesh (Jeremiah 17:9). And thus it would and is impossible for us to live out the standards of God's word without help and guidance. Jesus understood this and so He promised us that God the Father would send us a Comforter (John 14:16). The Comforter known as the Holy Spirit will dwell in us forever (John 14:16b). The Holy Spirit would also be a Counselor (John 16:7) in this role and duty the Holy Spirit would provide guidance and understanding for the believer. With all the influences and cares of this world that seek to counsel and control us the Holy Spirit would stand in staunch contrast and fight against those forces that seek to influence the believer. The Holy Spirit would also be the Spirit of Truth leading the believer into all truth and placing the truth in the believer (John 15:26). Jesus understood the power and personage of the Holy Spirit and knew that He would be the perfect gift and person to indwell the believer and continue His work in the heart and inner man of the believer. The Holy Spirit would also sanctify the believer and progress them in the sanctification process of salvation (2 Thessalonians 2:13). The Holy Spirit would also be the agent that would convict the world and unbelievers of sin (Acts 17:11). Not only would the Holy Spirit do an inward work in the life of the believer He would also empower the believer to witness and serve with power in ministry (Acts 1:8). He also dispenses gifts and ministries to the Church (1 Corinthians 12:7-11). As believers we need to understand the imperative need of the Holy Spirit in our lives and salvation. We would not be saved except by the drawing of the Holy Spirit to salvation. We could not be effective in serving Jesus or in our walk without the power and work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit seals us unto the day of redemption (Ephesians 4:30). And by having the indwelling of the Holy Spirit there is no excuse for us not to live holy or obey the commands of God (Hebrews 12:14). There is no excuse for us not to believe because we have the indwelling of the third person of the Godhead in us. The Holy Spirit is a gift in Himself to the Church and we should continue to be led by His guidance (Romans 8:14).
"The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life." (John 6:63)
"Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit." (Galatians 5:25)
In conclusion, Here is a hymn entitled "Blessed Quiteness" that describes the blessing of the Holy Spirit
"Joys are flowing like a river,
Since the Comforter has come;
He abides with us forever,
Makes the trusting heart His home,

Chorus
Blessed quietness, holy quietness,
Blest assurance in my soul!
On the stormy sea, Jesus speaks to me,
And the billows cease to roll!
