Peace is what Jesus is about
I actually agree with that (though I can think of a couple of contradicting scriptures right off the top of my head), but the question is one of personal calling in the "now" time.
Another story: An old preacher of mine was a much younger preacher during the Vietnam war. A friend of his who was an Army recruiter invited him out for coffee.
"Preacher", said the Army recruiter, "I wish you Methodists would make up your minds!"
"What do you mean, Sam?"
"Well, half the young people in your church are marching in the streets protesting the war. And the other half are at my office enlisting! Are you for the war, or against it?"
"Sam, God calls some to be peacemakers. Others He calls to protect those who cannot protect themselves."
I'll never forget that response. A dear brother on another forum fought in that war. I found out later he died from the leukemia that resulted from exposure to the defoliants used in that war, in a place where officially we never were. He found my preacher's words comforting, as he had to endure the contempt of those who opposed the war when he returned. Kodak, I'm lighting a candle for you in my heart.
